poor guy, we can't tell wind direction, that would be super disorientating. Glad he's safe though! Wasn't the longest freefall, but it was the fastest, wasnt it?

i thought he was dead when he started spinning and they cut the cameras and only showed the crew in the room. how the fuck can someone fall at 700+ mph while spinning and then miraculously regain control like that. what a freaking boss.

Mach number is dependent on velocity and altitude, so we have no idea until we find out the altitude at which he hit 729MPH. I have no idea why they'd post MPH, it means nothing to us. Mach number would have been just as easy to put up there.

Well the whole point of posting the speed was to see if he could break the sound barrier (because science would certainly like to know if that would happen from that altitude), and I think most people understand that Mach 1 = speed of sound.

What does mach mean to me? I know what MPH means, I use it in my every day life. I have never used mach to reference anything.

Yes, thats true. Kind of weird on their part, as reading a decimal number in terms of mach would have made way more sense. Although a tiny number like 0.87 Mach may not seem as fast as 729 MPH.

How many times have you broke the sound barrier good sir? Or are you in anything like an f-16 yet?

Sound travels much slower at higher altitudes because of less dense air so he may have broken the speed of sound. Idk
