Moment Bibby Special/Gov 196 or Moment Belafonte 192

Need some help here. I dont know too much about either of these skis. Which one is going to be more forgiving?

I really am having a mental block this afternoon. PLEASE list whatever comparisons you have between the two, if you dont mind

Im 6'2 190, and will these be too long for tight trees and bumps on occasion

Late to the thread, but I've ridden both (different sizes).

My take on the Belafonte: super stable, very supportive, not great in tight spots, doesn't like more than 6-8" new snow.

Bibby Special/Governor? My favorite ski from Moment. Charges like the old Garbones but gives you as much float in deep snow like the Comi. Honestly, it's the perfect blend of charging big mountain ski that can slay the pow and bust through crud like a freight train. Even though it has a flattish tail, because of the long rockered shovel, the Bibby Special/Governor pivots a lot easier than you think.


If I had to choose? Go with the Bibby Special/Governor. Hands down.

I went with the Belafonte. I already got k2 obsethed, and surface new life for powder slayers. This is for exactly what you said. under 6 inches of fresh. I got the 192 but im a big kid.

Plus the bibby special is not as stiff as the governor. The belafone is stiffer than the special, but not the governor. im gunna wait till next year when the gov goes on sale

The Bibby Special is EXACTLY the same flex as the Governor. It is the EXACT same ski ... just a different name (2011/2012 Bibby in 186cm and 196cm = 2012/2013 Governor in 186cm and 196cm).

According to Moment's catalog, the Governor has a relative flex of 10 and the Belafonte has a relative flex of 9 making the Governor stiffer.

Fairly certain both skis are the same flex. But I could be mistaken since I now have 2 people telling me otherwise.

ya the Gov. is stiffer. The Special would be considered an 8 on moments scale. bellafonte 9. gov 10. im gunna get the gov next year either when its on sale or a demo idc. im just waiting for my obsetheds to croak...lol jk

Cant you guys post some speculation about the bellafonte, 108mm is still cool isnt it?

i just got them in the mail, there from 2009 so the edges are rusty and the sidewalls need some work, nothing a tune wont fix.

Overall so stoked to try it out.

Anyone know where i should mount them. i dont wanna be too far back its a fast ski.

Go with the recommended line. Should be something like -9.5cm. I probably wouldn't go more than +1cm forward.

or maybe you know if blister will test the gov? they only tested the bibby special..

But yes, last year's Bibby in 186cm and 196cm is the EXACT same ski as this year's Governor. If the flex is indeed stiffer (I don't think it is), then that only makes this year's version even more of a charger.
