go for the gh3 if you really need weather sealed. I have the gh2 and have never had any problems. Panasonics are better for video

what do you mainly shoot photo or video?

It's a pretty amazing camera if you don't mind the price. For photography it has a better sensor than any Canon APS-C camera and the lenses are really small which is great when carrying a backpack on the hill.

That said a D90 costs half the price and will do the same thing or better.

If you want to shoot video, Panasonic is indeed a better option.

^seriosuly, m4/3s lenses are amazing. So much better thank canon and nikon's crop overhangs. ELV's are getting really good these days and because there is no mirror you can get a really fast burst rate. Sports or traveling I'd highly consider a mirror less setup over a aps-c dslr. I've been drooling over the fuji x series for quite some time.

I love my leica 25mm, it is so sharp, even at f1.4. With that said, the e-m5 is a solid still camera, but it can't touch the panasonics for video. The one thing that is great about the e-m5 though is that I heard it had long exposure live view (aka leave it open indefinitely and watch your picture as it happens), which seemed cool for taking pictures of stars etc.

Thanks for the feed back guys i kinda like the design, and how small the E-M5 is compared to most SLRs. What would be other good options besides the GH3?

My biggest gripe is that you can't mount actual OM lenses on it... Without an adapter, that is...

My point exactly, 25mm = 50mm, they make proper focal length equivalent lenses that are actually really nice, proper wide angles, etc. Canon and Nikon have never made spectacular native crop lenses when compared to their full frame offerings. Obviously they want you to buy the 'better' and more expensive full frame ones, but if your on a 1.6x and you want a 15mm, you are SOL, hence why tokina, tamron, and sigma have swooped in to fill the gap and are making big bucks on native crop lenses.

Not true. Nikon makes three excellent crop lenses of which two are absolutely spectacular: the professional 17-55 f/2.8 and the 10.5mm f/2.8. The 12-24mm f/4 is somewhat overshadowed by the Tokina 11-16...

Nikon also has the cheap 35mm f/1.8, plus they have a wide angle prime and a 16-85mm f/4 in the works.

So I wouldn't say Nikon doesn't make spectacular crop lenses. It's just Canon that has absolutely no L-glass for crop, nor any decent primes.

I said when compared to their full frame lenses. Using a full frame lens on a crop body, although you lose the wider angle, will be sharper because you are only using the centre of the lens, hence why crop users never have to worry about corner sharpness. That said, I'm sure nikon crop lenses are awesome, when I had a crop body I was drooling over that 10.5mm. This is a pointless argument though, no sense getting into it, they both make great gear, it's apples and oranges.

one last thing about lenses. Personally I am a fan of vintage glass, as it gives a nice look, i like the focus rings, and they are much less expensive. I did splurge majorly for my one m43 lens (other than the kit), but I have to say that it is completely worth it. These lenses are sharp wide open and reach optimum sharpness by one stop. it is insane. I could never understand why the 25mm prime had to be so expensive, but now I feel it was worth every penny. I use it 90% of the time, the performance is great, it has useable continuous AF for video, and it even has a little character to it. I don't feel at all limited by my camera. the only thing the gh2 would struggle with would potentially be flash work, but I now almost zero about this. m43 is not a toy system, and the lenses are good enough that you can open them up a few stops to match the shallow dof of a full frame camera (for most except the shallowest of shots). I honestly couldn't be happier. This is turning into serious rambling, but maybe it will help someone

I'm a owner of the E-M5 since my 60d got stolen. I've only owned it for about a week, but thus far I'm stoked on the little camera. The only thing I've got a hard time coping with is the electronic viewfinder.
