Through out American History, Americans killed twice as many American Indians as Hitler Killed Jews. Thats right, Americans killed 12 MILLION American Indians. That is a horribly depressing thought on how un-represented they are, where as how well informed Americans are on the Holocaust.

there are a lot of things I wish I didnt know, some more trivial than others. But yeah, the thing that makes me the most depressed, besides our rapid destruction of nature and the wildlife must be the fact that we, as individuals, are pretty useless.

Sure, I'm the "main character" in my life, but who else cares about me like I do? No one. When I die, a few people will remember me, but when they die there will be no proof of that I existed. I see this massive anthill infront of me, where I'll just disappear among all the other, equally useless ants, replaced by others and soon forgotten.

Idk, I guess I just wish that I didnt know that life has no real point./rant

Because it gives you the motivation to occupy your brief existence with the illusion of doing something productive rather than acknowledging your existential worthlessness and doing jackshit nothing with your life. You won't care once you're dead, but until then you will.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think the purpose is fame. It's simply about leaving a mark that outlives your cells; whether or not you are ever recognized for it has nothing to do with it.

Jumping to conclusions here, just because you don't care if you're remembered doesn't mean you'll live a sad life. Maximize happiness and do what you want, then die. And that argument you just made share ugly similarities with one that says believe in religion X because the illusion makes your life better

That's precisely what I was trying to communicate... one should not derive happiness from being remembered, they should derive motivation from the idea that anything you do in life has any impact at all, which I suppose is true in the short term. I guess I just get a weird present-tense satisfaction from knowing that my footprint is left after I'm gone, especially if no one ever finds it.

On an unrelated note, do you really think that people using illusions to enhance their life are exclusive to theism? All humans do it to some degree.
