College Essay

Mocking the application process while writing a college application = fail. You have to work with what you have. It's not their fault you have no pertinent extracurriculars.

Just get it write

Used to edit and advise on these for a private admissions counselor. You need to be smart, unique, and fun all at once. When they're reading through that (probably virtual) stack of essays, why do you stand out? Why will they remember you for the better versus the hundreds or thousands of other essays they have read?

It will come a lot easier to you if it is something that really means a lot to you, but be sure it will also be something interesting to the admissions officer.

Many people on here will tell you to write about skiing. I don't necessarily have a predilection against this, but be sure that you're focusing more on who you are and what you have learned from skiing more than it was super cool to land your first backflip. Along with this, writing about failures and what you learned from it is often more interesting that successes.

Also, very few public Universities actually read through these, not that you shouldn't do well anyway. However, smaller, private, liberal arts schools will definitely be reading these.

Get drunk then write it.

My best friend keeps a bottle of tequila in his room just for writing essays. 4-5 shots and everything he writes is golden. He was in journalism at a shitty community college, he didn't go to class that much, but he got all A's on his papers and transferred to a real good Uni this year.

This for sure. Think of something small and bullshit about it and how it changed how you go about meeting your goals or how it changed you as a person. Really you can lie about your college essay. Make it believable and realistic. It could be that hiking tip in the mountains, or what ever interesting that has happened in your life you can write about it and there has to be one thing that is interesting that you can write about.

subject material is much less important than writing style and ability. you just need to be good at writing papers and have it properly edited

Where are you applying?

I don't know about that, almost anyone now-a-days can get an essay proof read multiple times so that it's grammatically flawless, and get a teacher or writing tutor to help you write it so that the writing flows and sounds impressive.

GPA and SAT/ACT depending as well

The school I want to get into the most is University of Wisconsin

I assume you mean Madison and not one of the "lesser" UW schools.

They have holistic admissions so chances are greater than 50/50 that someone will read the essay. Better get on it.

I just wrote one of mine today. Ask your parents for some ideas if you're stuck, I did this and was suprised...my dad remembers more of my life than I do.
