The Maze is supposed to be the lightest certified helmet. No helmet can prevent a serious injury or worse. But they can reduce the chance. I use a Maze cos of its weight. But I do think there's better helmets out there if safety is your number one concern.

Glad you survived! But no helmet is supposed to 'save your life' more than once. If you've had a serious impact, even if no damage to the helmet is visible, you should replace it. That's standard procedure for any safety gear.

That's good, but you should really replace the helmet now. Most helmets are only designed to absorb one major impact.

The helmet is as safe as most others; Smith makes great brain buckets.
One thing to keep in mind, though, is that helmets help with sharper forces (i.e. hitting a tree), but higher, less concentrated forces will just be redistributed to the neck/spine area: so instead of a cracked skull you would have a broken neck, for example. I've seen one of those on an EMS call with my squad.
