Has FD redeemed their moral reputation by posting videos of awesome shit?
To me, First Drop will always be a shoddy company. I'm not saying that they are bad people, or that being thug is not ok. I think that from a business stand point they are unprofessional and their products lack the quality.
David Lesh is a graphic designer, why do the website and ads look like crap?
Also they pants fit weird as hell, but I guess they are just accounting for the rising obese population.
FD is a sick idea, especially from lesh who had a pretty rough life growing up and now hes pretty successful. that being said he does cross a ton of boundaries
I like that he crosses boundries. In my mind, it's what sets fd off from other companies, and kind of encompasses the non-give-a-fuckedness of skiing culture im general. Im sure that is lesh's intent.
my friend designed the Virtika logo, and lesh said he was gonna pay him, and basically took the logo that he designed for him, and cut off contact with him, and so hes putting together a sieze and assist at the moment and seeing how that goes.
this.
Each kid in the park tries to act like they just don't give a fuck, why not lesh make ads and videos like that? I like what hes doing and they have some cool looking attire (i did not say all of their stuff, some).
Oh like shooting a gun at a sign? That's not crossing boundaries, that's fucking illegal and stupid. I'm sure to a city boy like you that's considered G. To a grown man who DOES GIVE A FUCK about shit it's stupid.
It's one thing to sponsor riders that say shit and do things on their own. It's another to have the owner and founder of a company endorse and participate in said stupid shit. To me he's ostracizing a large (majority) chunk of skiers. Not the brightest business idea ever...
This has all gotten pretty out of hand. Judging a company based on the personality of the owner? The majority of this site just plain doesnt know them. We know OF them, read what they post online, etc, etc, but alot of assumptions get made. In my opinion, buy it if you like it, otherwise, buy something else. Arguing about whether or not these kids are good for skiing or good for America (sweatshop rants? really?) is just fucking stupid. Granted i did not like most of his interview, this site still just cares way too much.
If you read I was quoting another person's terminology. I aint no city kid. And its not about being G, its about doing what you want and having fun. I fucking hate kids that adopt the thug persona. Bishop has come in multiple times (especially in response to the Last Friday vid) asking since when did ski companies have to be so serious and professional. It's called freeskiing for a reason. Do what you want, regardless of what others do. And that's pretty much what Lesh is doing. He's breaking the mold.
i bought FD in their first year and i still like my suit. only issue i've had is that one of the pockets ripped open when i got it stuck in a chairlift, but that's more the chairlift/my fault than a problem with the product. they sold me exactly what they advertised and at a good price, threw in a bunch of free stickers as well. i heard that if i sent my suit to them they would fix the pocket but i don't give enough of a shit to bother. i think they got a bad rep their first year because a lot of people's suits ripped and they didn't like the waterproofing. i like my suit because unlike some other comparable brands it actually has insulation instead of just a shell, and the pockets, despite looking different, and having one rip open on me, are actually super functional and useful, and it only cost me $400 for the pants and jacket (you get what you pay for people, if you wanted HH you should have bought HH). i honestly don't know or care why everyone hates them so much now, and i'll probably trade my FD in for something better (and way more expensive) this season, but it has held up fine in my case.
It is not about rich kids acting like gangsters, it comes down to poor quality product with poor/unoriginal design and a shitty marketing/branding strategy. If they want to be a real brand they need to hire real designers, a real branding firm, and a real staff or it is just going to be a rich kid's pet project forever.
I agree the designs arnt that great, but as far as you wanting it to be a legit company like the north face, fuck that. Who says you cant run a business like lesh. Anyway thats how saga and jiberish started. Just some dudes that liked to ski and had an idea.
not a fan of most of their colors and designs but i think its rad how they just do whatever they want and give zero fucks what people think. sort of like what o.f. has done in the rap game and look how big theyve got so maybe in a year or two fd will be considered "cool" like saga or ldc is now
So he will SEIZE something from FD, then proceed to assist them? In what way will he assist them? And is that not detrimental to the whole seizing thing?
Who gives a fuck about their moral reputation. Their reputation as a producer of ski clothes is still shittier than shit, and that's all that really matters.
Holy hell, I don't know where you kids come up with half this shit.
I am not a graphic designer; I have never taken a graphic design class in my life or had a job as a graphic designer. I was never even close to graduating college, I barely graduated high school!
The comment about not paying some kid for a logo is also nonsense.
i still have my suit from the first year, big pocket ripped, tried to fix it, ripped even more so i just ripped it off. Still awesome to ride in on cold as fuck days.
Not about acting g? Is that why guns are involved?
I never said ski companies have to act serious. I buy voleurz shit all the time and look at their winter Olympics. I buy moment, line skis but you don't see them acting like a criminal do you?
Honestly, I don't really give a shit what he does with his company but you can't be serious when you say that he's not trying to act like a g.
I agree that he is trying to act like a G. That wasn't my point, sorry if I worded it weird. My point was that lesh should be able to do what he wants without having to conform to what the other companies out there are doing.
All three were started by a couple of skiers who wanted to make unique clothing for the freeskiing market. Now that they have expanded, all three companies outsource their labor to china. They all had similar starts, the only thing that has changed as the years have gone by are differences in marketing strategies.
I bet all of you that rip on first drop's durability have never owned first drop. I was worried about my jackets durability and quality when I got it. It turns out it is fantastic jacket. The 60% off sale last year was a great deal, and I got wayyyy more than I thought I was getting. Just little things like the magnetic snaps over the zipper. I love the inside mesh pockets as well, they are great for outer gloves when my hands get too warm. It also has insulation, unlike most jackets these days which are just shells. I've only skied probably 5 days in it so far because I got it at the end of the season, but so far I am incredibly happy with it. I will definitely be buying from first drop again.
