Taking off winter quarter

Has anyone done this? I'm a freshman at the university of washington (quarter system), and I was wondering if taking off winter quarter and taking classes in summer quarter would be detrimental in any way. I commute to school because I live close and it saves a ton of money, so my housing situation would not change. Am I dumb for considering taking the winter quarter off and taking summer classes?

Not at all, just make sure the courses you would've taken in the winter are available in the summer. You like to ski, fuck it man.

fuck going to school in the summer. Most people are out skiing on the weekends anyway. I love some midweek solitary pow/cruisin time or some mellow sesh's with friends with empty parks, but the weekends are the shit.
Even if you love winter >summer, summer is when all your friends are out partying, road tripping, cliff jumping, whatever else. Idk, if it were me I wouldn't be able to handle school through that.
It's up to you though. Do what you feel is right. Good luck man.

I would say pull another year of highschool, and stick it out. It will get you finished quicker overall, and you won't be missing partying with all your friends during summer. I can't imagine being tied down for school post grad during the summer months.

the idea was to take an equivalent amount of credits in the summer so it wouldn't take longer, but i see what you're saying

It's your choice though. If you really love skiing without lines, empty park and such I would say go for it. It's fully personal preference.

UW has a pretty shitty social scene to begin with, but I'd imagine it's a lot worse in the summer than the winter quarter. Just a little Cougar love for you. Anyway, I'd stay in school during the winter quarter because I'd rather be at school when everyone else is and out of school when everyone else is. Plus Seattle is awesome during the summer.

finish off this year, and take a whole year/winter off. ski and work and be a ski bum, then go back.

I wouldn't do it man. I've taken summer courses, and it sucks to be inside or studying when it is so beautiful out. And all your friends will be hanging out without you. Your call, but it's not for me..
