T2i rode mic help

So I have the rode video mic and ML on my camera if that's contributing to this problem or I can fix it through ML. but when I recently reviewed my footage my mic is only playing the audio through 1 speaker. My mic is on the 1st click on the rode mic if that makes any difference. So how do I get rid of tho problem? And how do I make it play through both speakers with the footage I already have? Thx sorry for mistakes on mobile

i haven't had this problem in camera but basically it means you are only recording the right or left side of stereo sound. you can easily fix this in post by just copy and pasting your audio file and setting the pan opposite of the original audio. then you will get sound out of both sides in your video. not sure if you can fix in ML but check under the audio tab and make sure your input gain is correct, the left and right gain are the same, and that your mic is plugged in completely. hope that helps.

If you do this you'll only end up with mono sound.

its only recording mono sound to begin with but by bringing one pan all the way right you balance out the sound to the middle and therefore comes through both speakers evenly

word thanks a ton and i just tried using my camera again and reduced the digital gain to zero (i think it was called that) and made sure my mic was fully plugged in and it worked. And for hissing noises how do you reduce that through ML? or do you use a another program? If so which one?

for the hissing noise, there should be one that says auto gain control in the audio tab in magic lantern. turn that button off and then you should be good.

thanks again but sometihng is fucking wrong with my camera i just renamed my sd card (i dont think this would be problem) but when i put it back in the camera ML wont show up for some fucking reason on my camera when i hit the trash button

i wouldn't rename your sd card for that reason but you didn't delete the outermost files in the first level of the card did you? or accidentally change something there? cuz if those get messed with i know there can be problems. worst case you could just re-add ML to your card

nope im in video mode and when i hit the trash can nothing will show up and all of the files are still on my card for mL

i fixed the ML problem just be reinstalling it onto my card but im having this weird issue with my mic. A lot of times when i start filming with my rode mic the audio will be real loud for a second then cut back to normal. any suggestions

and for all of you ML users what do you have your audio settings at? Ive got the analog gain at 23db
and the L-digital gain at 12db and the R-digital gain at 12db also, maybe thats contributing to the issue but anyones advice would be greatly appreciated!

i believe my L and R digital gain are at 0. also you should be able to meter your audio with the on screen levels. i rarely let my levels get into the yellow, and i always try to keep a good balance of gain between my camera and microphone itself. so the gain on my mic may be at 0 and then on the camera have the gain around 17db depending on the situation. but definitely turn your left and right digital gains both to zero and make sure you are keeping your levels for audio in the green, rarely in the yellow, and once its red it will clip and sound like garbage

when i have my L and R at zero and my analog gain at 17 i pretty much cant hear a single thing when i playback my footage with my rodemic turn on on the second notch.

when i play it back on the computer at a louder volume i can hear it. but even with my L and R at zero at the beginning of the clip occasionaly the audio will be way louder for a second and then go back to normal. why is this happening?????

it happens to me too. I'm pretty sure it's a glitch, but if you're also waiting till the last second to press the record button, that's a problem. So just record earlier, it's a good habit anyways

do u ever get problems with your mic where the audio will be real loud for a second and then it will completely cut out? Do you know if this glitch is fixable? I looked around on google and didnt see anything

yeah this happens to me all the time actually with my t2i with ml. I have a cheap audio technica mic. It is really loud in the first 1/2 second of the recording and then drops down in volume for the rest of the clip. it's really annoying.
