(NEW) Canon T3i help.

Here the my information---- I really want this camera specificaly.

1) My budget is $1000-$1200. I have it all stored up in my bank so I can spend it right away. I also have a job which pays $8 and hour so so pretty much $100 a week.


2) I am an absolute n00b when it comes to video/photography. I have decided to start this year because I think it would be absolutly crazy to go into this field of work. I haven't used this camera before, But i have looked up munch information about it. I have used more advanced cameras before because my aunt is a photographer and she lets me use hers from time to time.


2) I have a Pro grip, I can just adjust it to the canon if I decide to get it. My friend also has a go pro.


4) I am planning to shoot videos of freestlye skiing,  tramps, and for other everyday uses. As well as take HD photos of them too. I will also use it for school-related subjects.


5) I will be doing all the filming, with the occasional friend taking photo of me skiing (I'm not that great on camera)

6) Follow cams are how I am going to shoot videos. But i will also get a tripod for still shots. 


7) I have a macbook pro to edit these videos/photos. I have lots of space! :0

7) I-movie. Im not looking into spenfing money on other editing software.

Sooo if you already know you want a t3i, what exactly do you need help with? You just want someone to tell you how awesome it so you feel better about buying one?

As for lenses I'll just give you the obligatory recommendations:

Tamron 17-50 2.8 non vc
Rokinon fisheye or Tokina 11-16
Canon 70-200 f4l non IS

These gear recommendation threads are getting really old. Seriously there are hundreds of them on them in M&A and most of them contain the same information. Seriously, do some research on your own. People on here don't even know what they're talking about most of the time, theyll just tell you to get whatever camera/lenses they have.

Ok, the sticky says the percice intructions to give to people telling why you want the camera. There are thousands of them because its what the instructions tell you to do... As for what I need help with, Look at my thread. If you need more information, I want to know what to get for a camera that is/ realted to the T3i.... I want to know what to get for a Camera!!!!

Okay it seems like you have decided you want a DSLR so the t3i will be great, but if you want to save money go with the t2i, essentially the same camera but without the flip out screen. If you plan on shooting mostly video then also look into the Panasonic GH2.
For lenses look into the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, this is wide enough to shoot follow cam with until you can afford a wide angle like the Tokina 11-16mm or if you want a fisheye Rokinon 8mm. But if you feel that you are going to shoot mostly follow cams in the beginning you can get a wide angle before the Tamron, if you do this I suggest getting at least the kit lens (18-55mm) or a Canon 50mm f/1.8.
Accessories:
Get one or two extra batteries.
ND filter/filters, look into the Light Craft fader ND, make sure to buy the 77mm version and just get cheap adapter rings if you get any smaller lenses.
Tripod and tripod head, for video you will need a fluid head like the Manfrotto 701hdv.
Glidecam
Microphone with a deadcat, if you don't care about having a pretty big microphone look at the Rode videomic, if you want something smaller look at the Rode videomic pro or the Sennheiser mke 400.

I just got the T3i not to long ago and i use a 50mm/1.8 which is amazing the build is cheap and plastic but the glass is really nice i also got a tamron 17-50 which is amazing and for when i shoot vids i use a rokinon 8mm fisheye and i love that so if u like fisheye go with that forsure! and makesure u get the 50mm/ 1.8 its a cheap lens only like $100 and you can use it for a lot of different shots but make sure you get the one without the stabilizer.

agreed. you can buy Final Cut Express for not that much, its not top of the line but it's alot more comprehensive than iMovie. it'll also give you a chance to learn alot (real easy to use after some basic experimentation) and see if you want to upgrade further down the line

also if your going to edit stuff for photographs or videos just download premiere pro and photoshop Cs6 and also get Adobe After Effects they are all a lot better then Final Cut pro and that crap I use those instead of final cut pro on my mac.

if you get them just go on youtube and search for whatever one you want and search crack next to it or amtlib.dll its super easy to download just follow the steps.

I have the canon t3i and I love it. I'd recommend buying a t3i then investing in a good tripod/ glidecam if you want to spend the money and are serous about this. I'd also GET THE FUCK RID of Imovie, and have a friend help you torrent final cut pro. Buy the t3i, it's the beez' knees. I'd also recommend a 50mm lens. Good luck with your camera search.

So what exactly are the differences between the T2i and the T3i?... besides the flip screen. Also, thanks everyone for the information. I would have never found this on an website such as Cnet.

That lens is not very wide, both the kit lens (18-55mm) and the Tamron 17-50mm is wider.
Heres a photo explaining what focal length is, so if you want a wide angle look at something around 10mm.

bump for problem. A stabilizer that I'm thinking about getting, THe Pro Grip T3i, looks cool and really cheap for recording videos. Would this work out alright? or a fucking expensive monster like a glidecam...

just download the whole cs6 production premium thing with the free trial. I have the amtlib.dll file (no dumb surverys and bs). you can pm me if u want it. but yeah cs6 is awesome.
