I am so stoked to be taking a trip out there on December 20th!! They have already been getting snow in the peaks so I am praying for snow and more snow! Just curious if any of you guys or (girls) have been there or if its your home mountain. What you've heard about it, etc!? Thanks, and if you have pics from when you were there i'd love to see!

Monarch is nearby. If you had access to small plane Aspen is a 25 miles as the crow flies from CB. Other than those theres nothing. Just mountains. Really sick if you got a snowmoblie or AT setup.

Yeah no access to snowmobile at least for the first trip, I'll forsure be looking for some local riders! I hear they close the summit during winter so doesn't look like I'll be making a hike up and a nice trek down. Lots of pow normally? I

I live like 8 miles outside of CB in the backcountry, send me a pm or something when you're in town!

CB is awesome though, you'll be here pretty early though, so most likely the conditions won't be amazing, you never know though! Their park is actually pretty good ever since they moved it, the mountain itself is really fun, even if the snows not the best you'll enjoy it.

CB is a great place, good people and other then last year we usually have great snow! so just keep your fingers crossed you'll have a dope trip either way!

As long as there is enough snow, it's a great mountain, lots of "diverse" terrain, and it is never that crowded, I almost ride onto the lifts most of the time. Big pow days are crowded but it's nothing like a lot of other mountains.

Although I can't ski until late January (injury) and I haven't skied there during that time, because I'm out of the state at that point, (word is) it's usually good at that time.

Been here for a couple years, real good lookin place.

That is a very beautiful place!!! I hope that I get a good dump of snow while i'm out there!! Just praying we have a better winter than last year and there will be a good amount of snow by late december!

That would be awesome to live out there!!, I will forsure send you a pm when i get out there. Yeah duh to winter break this year at school we had to go a little earlier, so I'm praying for lots of snow.  By mid-late december do you think it will be fully open? Oh i know it will still be a blast, so is it true though that they close the summit during winter so I couldn't make a hike up and ski down???

I think after last year everyone is praying for a better winter with way more snow!! it looks like lots of fun and so it is more of a locals mountain rather than a tourist area (hint, the shorter lines)? I hope I get a big pow day while im out there haha! Thats sucks about the injury though, good luck with that!

haha yeah for sure. Most of the time it seems to be mostly locals, but at vacation times, there are a lot of Texans, who get in the way allll the time, BUT they basically fuel the CB economy haha.

haha the only thing worse than a gaper would be a texan gaper! haha, Now that someone mentioned snowmobiles, I might have to look about renting one of those from somewhere haha

FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THAT AREA: whenever you guys take pictures in the weeks to come, if you get a chance can you post them hear, I'd love to see how the snowfall is coming and how beautiful she looks when its completey white!

the backcountry around CB is so good, there's a few different trailheads less than a mile from town. here's a powder vid that was filmed only at the resort and some surrounding BC.



people from CB, let's hear the names of some of these spots!

This is absolutley amazing looking! I hope to god I get a good dump while I'm out there!, Yeah I'd love to know some BC places or some names of some places to go, favorite trails at resort, all that stuff! It would be awesome if I could even hook up with a local while there and have them show me some of these killers places, haha be like my tour guide!

I think I saw some pheonix/third bowl/last steep and maybe a few tree runs that looked familiar. I havent spent much time in the bc but what I've skied has been sick. It all looks so different with snow on it haha. Hope this year looks like that!

Do you think by December 15th or a little later they will have a decent amount of snow? Oh and one more question do they have snow blowers on the popular parts of the mountain?

I lived there for 8 years, you'll want to check the snow conditions a lot before you leave. Mid-December is not the best time to go there because none of the fun terrain is usually open by then. Crested Butte is very feast or famine with snow.

If you want an AT setup or can make friends with someone who has a sled, Slate River/Wash. Gulch is a lot of fun when there is good snow. Go with people who know the area though, that's my word of caution. If you get super desperate, drive up the Kebler Pass (closed in the winter) to the parking lot and hike something from there.

Hope you have fun in the Butte, it's a unique and awesome place!

way to dangerous, stick to the resort. you will be mesmerized CB is awesome.

The hike to the summit is open conditions permitting. It gets hard by wind which scours it pretty bad. Hopefully we will have some good terrain open by then, but its kind of early for most of the gnarly stuff. You'd be lucky to be able to ski Big Chute, headwall and North Face dec. 20th. That being said there is tons of other fun terrain around. If you want to meet locals and maybe find someone to shred with, stop by Colorado FreeSkier at the base of the mountain. Employees get 2 hr ski breaks and most would be happy to show you around for a bit.
The park is usually going by then too, there are some sick shacks, and bud is super easy to find.

SourSteezle, in your vid i think i saw some sock-it-to-me, fredos, teo bowl, trees below hotrocks and maybe some bc out in the anthracites?

pretty dead-on

:07-:10- million dolar highway, so pretty much cutting through/below fredos
:11- it's actually right next to the base of the high lift (it's as if you get off the high life and go skiers left towards paradise bowl- i'm a little rusty with my local names after not skiing there last season)
:30-1:05 - Anthracites, second bowl and west bowl
1:15-1:30- sock it to me
1:30-1:40 - these are actually the low elevation trees off teocali LIFT haha
1:40- 2:10 moonscape
2:10-end low elevation trees past the anthracites towards the trailhead in gunny, you can shuttle if you have a sled

all of the north face and highlift terrrain is sick. They also have a great park(people who ski summit everyday might disagree but coming from a new mexican it's sick)If crested butte doesn't have a big early season you might want to check out telluride. it's 2 hrs away, gets slightly more snow, and takes less to cover. crested butte, telluride, and silverton have the best inbounds terrain in colorado period. I was at crested butte last year in mid march when it was 55 degrees out and they had only a 35 inch base with rocks every where on the north face and high lift and it still was awesome

will for sure be able to find bud in town, theres a few dispensaries but there bud is not the best. Crested Butte is real fun, might not be a ton of snow when you're there but who knows! Just shredding the mountain with not that much snow is still fun, and you never really wait for anybody. Theres a bunch of college students who ride CB so you'll for sure be able to find some kids to ride with

Spent a week there a few years back. One of my favorites. Been dreaming of it ever since. Only possible complaint i could have was that we had heavy wind every day--made the summit a pain in the ass.
Town is really sick too.

Are you dumb?

Taking a sled into the back country with no sledding, touring, or avalanche knowledge/experience, not to mention the snow pack at that time, and you have no idea where you’re going....all sounds like a recipe for disaster. As you’re from the mid-west I'm guessing you haven’t seen real mountains before. The west is a whole new game, you can’t have the same mid set you do when your ski Illinois or wherever you’re from-a lot more can go wrong than just overshooting a jump or falling on a rail…

Most of the snow that's left is on the peaks. There actually is a lil snow left right outside mi casa, but only in the shade. Had some rails set up and had a good jib day going a few days ago. But it's been sunny since and the snows a melting..

I actually am not dumb, I clearly said if I could find someone who lives there to take me meaning they would have the knowledge so it wouldn't be as dangerous. I have been to many of places besides MW, such as WV, PA, VT, and CO before just not Crested Butte.

the person who would take you into the backcountry is just as dumb. you have no avalanche knowledge. so if something happens to them what are you going to do?
