Well actually, not even so much the brand itself, its more the cheesy, cliche, image these guys try to portray of themselves through the brand.

i like paul bergeron's skiing, dude's got moves, but his outerwear style was never something i liked or want to emulate, so this changes nothing for me.

I am so fucking sick of people hating on first drop because it's the cool thing to do. They produce reasonably priced outerwear and are constantly looking to us (newschoolers.com) for feedback to continue to improve their gear.

I bought a pair FD pants 2 seasons ago and they have held up WAY better than the Oakley pants that I had previously.

Also, as it was said before, First Drop sponsoring B-Paul will give him more opportunities to film/ compete etc. 90% of pro skiers do not make very much money at all. By riding for FD, B-Paul can continue to support himself doing what he loves.

That is all. Bring on the Hate.

Who are these guys you're referring too? It's pretty easy to be a hater in general when people just make shit up and draw their own conclusions.

Some of you have mad inside info so help me out and please explain.

How did you guys find out Lesh gets all his money from mommy and daddy? What hardcore values do you have that you would turn down meeting the president wether you voted for him or not? How did you learn they hired a production company to make videos like "Last Friday'? How do you know so much about the quality of the new outerwear FD is putting out? Is FD the only ski company having things made out of China? What did they do to you that you need to be so vocal about how much you hate them?

Thanks for your insight.

I never implied any of those things man ahaha, I was simply refering more too their ads and vids that try to portray this (IMO) cheesy badass image, which is pretty rediculous and not my thing at all, which is why I dislike first drop, I never said anything about meeting the president, the location of the factories, or where the company gets its funding from.

He is right though, b-paul is not a very big name in skiing, and thus he will not make as much money for oakley, so they pay him less. Companies don't just give sponserhips, gear, and pay checks out of the goodness of their hearts, its a business decision with mutual benefit for both parties involved. So of course b-paul is not going to get as much from Oakley as say, Tanner Hall would, because Tanner's popularity can make lot more money for the company.

Of course I have not a clue how oakley and b-paul got along specifically, thats just how it normally works with sponserships.

It's about exposure, not level of skill. Honestly guys doing good skiing in web edits are a dime a dozen.

You also have to take into account comparative market size and focus of each company.

Someone like Oakely markets to the niche, but as well markets to a wider non-skiing audience. Company like FD Wear is more focused on a smaller niche - within skiing.

Same would go for a Saga, ON3P, etc... its all about niche.

It can be better for a niche company to focus on a more niche appeal athlete, instead of a mass appeal one. A niche athlete can also do wonders by working with a company that is more in-line with what they're doing.

Finally, when you're niche focused, you can proportionally dedicate more resources to something that shares your niche. We do this all the time with Newschoolers... we never need to try to reach a mass audience, because we can build perfect relationships sticking true to our community of skiers.

Its a common business tactic, and one that works fantastically for both sides.

What is your point? One guy is a Superunknown winner with an effortless style and smooth landings.

The second kid hucks everything, washes out half his landings, and clearly has an issue with forward pressure if he falls out out 14din bindings doing basic shit.

Neither are really relevant to a company like Oakley. Though the first guy might be worth(pre superunknown) getting on some flow sponsorship until he blows up, or it's deemed that he has limited marketing appeal.

Also, you obviously didn't read Bishop's post. Have fun "real skiing" during your 3 month winter on your snow covered landfill kid.
