Hey guys looking to either get a 50mm 1.8 or 1.4. I've heard that cheaper vintage primes are better though? Does this one look good? Its very cheap so...
Well, the bidding ended but for $122 I would have stayed away.
The only thing the 1.8 really has going for it over the 1.8II is a metal mount and from what I've read, there aren't many complaints with the plastic mount. The 1.8II goes for $98 new on B&H.
The ebay auction it came with a UV but I've never heard of Midori. (Maybe that makes me ignorant.)So when it comes down to it, you're comparing an evenly matched lens where one is 20 years old to a new one for the same price. No deal.
If interested, I have a 50 mm f/1.8ii with a BW UV for $95 shipped.
50's are great lenses, my 50 1.8 came with my camera, but if I had the money right now I'd go out and buy the 50 1.4. I shoot a lot of portraits and I'm getting really tired of the slow auto-focus and toy-like feel of the 1.8. If you know you're going to be using it a lot (which you might because it's a super fun lens) defiantly invest in the 1.4
well, mine got destroyed by nothing (20cm drop) and I know a pro photographer who had like 4 or 5 of these and they gets destroyed pretty easy, but I think the sigma 50mm 1.4 is a little more robust.. look that up
