that's pretty much your best bet unless you plan on going the external recorder route (zoom h4n/tascam DR40) or getting either a beachtek/juicelinked for XLR outputs.
If you're only planning on having the mic on top of your camera, I'd say go ahead and buy it, if you're looking to have it boomed somewhere/possibly need lav mics in the future you might want to go another route
definitely the rode videomic pro, if your just lookin for some better on board sound that mic is balla. thats the same set up i have so if you want any examples of it on the slopes i got some, just let me know
here are some skiing shots with it. i forgot my dead cat windscreen that i have for it on this day but it still held up pretty well. i also have magic lantern on my 60D so i could turn off auto gain control.
those are just raw clips straight off the camera with no sound enhancements at all. this last one is a few shots from that day that i just wanted to put together with music and some other sound design type stuff along with original audio
