Hey guys, I have been looking it to UBC for a while now. It seems like it is pretty awesome to go because of the nature there and the studying. I have seen and read a lot about this university but i just want an inside to the university life there. It has my program which is Chemical Engineering so its good for me and If anyone has something to share if u go to UBC that would be awesome and would help me out a lot. Obviously being a skier this university intrigues me a lot too. (lets keep this mature, if u have nothing to say that would help me out, just don't post)

Hit up Vancouver/Whistler regionals. There are a few threads in there on UBC and some people who go there.

I just applied for the Vancouver campus and I am stoked! I have been to the campus about 10 times and absolutely love it, the campus itself is really really amazing. Also the first year residences are pretty nice, Vanier is definitely the nicer of the two, but Totem is bigger and has a ton of parties, so its a toss up there.

The university community there seems super tight and Vancouver is a really fun city, so much stuff to do, and not to mention UBC is an unreal school.

although, they opened up some new buildings in totem that are basically like hotels... 2 single rooms attached by a shared bathroom.

It seems like a pretty legit school. I might have to make a visit up there (and ski whistler again while I'm at it muahahahha)

do it. First of all, that degree from that school will set you up real good for whatever you want to do next. You would be at the second best research university in canada with one of the strongest undergraduate programs. Second, Vancouver is the best city in canada, rivalled only by Montreal. There is so much culture, you will always find stuff to do. Third, you have squamish and whistler in your backyard, and are 5 hours away from surfing in washington or vancouver island.

Only thing to consider is it's a huge god damn city with a high cost of living. There are also virtually no off campus housing options where you could walk to school. There are a few close student neighbourhoods, but they are all biking/transit distance away. This is pretty different from a lot of university towns, where it's easy to find affordable housing near campus.

I wanted to go to UBC, I'm glad I live in victoria instead though. However I am almost for sure going to have to move to van for work, and if I could get into a graduate program at UBC I would ditch UVic in a second.

Hey there, stoked that your planning on going to UBC!
I am from Toronto and in the faculty of engineering at UBC, it is a really sick place.
Before telling you all the good stuff about it I am going to be honest and tell you what your going to experience going to UBC engineering
- first year engineering is hard as fuck, most people that go into it don't finish in engineering. I know a lot of people that didn't make it
- it rains quite a bit, it sounds like a myth but its true
- all your friends in arts are going to be partying all the time, you're going to be working most of the time
- for me at least, most of my friends went to Queens and Western and UBC is huge
- it is such a big school its hard to find a group to chill with (don't worry keep reading)

Now for why you should go to UBC engineering
- one of the best schools for engineering, its research programs are unreal
- there are a million things to get involved in, just got to commit to one of them
- the ubc ski and board club is the most funded club, it is sponsored by Cariboo (beer) and Monster (energy drinks). They throw down huge jams on the regular and give you amazing deals all over Vancouver (including all the ski shops)
- Vancouver is an amazing city, you can do so much cool shit its unreal
- WHISTLER BLACKCOMB!!!!!!!!!!
- cypress, seymour, grouse
- the days when its not raining are the nicest sunniest days you'll ever see

I don't think they will pay for you. MAYBE if you have a full ride scholarship. However UBC has an awesome forestry program. My buddy just finished four years of forestry there. The building is unreal, super nice. The people in forestry are also super chill. You will also leave with a job. BC has a huge forestry industry and they want people from UBC.

UBC gives you a certain amount based on how far you live. I live in Toronto and got something like 600 dollars which is about one round trip

I'm a survivor of first year, and am now in Geological engineering at ubc. The great thing is that the competitive average to get in to engineering is quite low, but unfortunately the workload is very, very heavy. I should warn you that there is a 40% drop out rate and the class averages are often around 50, so you do need to be prepared to work your ass off if you want to do well. If you do pass, you're very likely to get into co-op, which is a very good way to get work experience, and get a good job once you're done so its worth it imo. The UBC ski and board club is a riot. Good luck

yeah man in first year a bunch of my friends from ontario got a $500 cheque from student services due to traveling whatever distance that was. i was all pissed because though I am canadian, and traveled from further than them, coming from an american high school means you're ineligible for that little refund

Dude I'm a first year taking business at UBC, and this place is the bomb. You will love it if you love skiing and other outdoors stuff, Vancouver cant really be matched.
