So I found a pair of fks 18 bindings for 260$ online, the fks 14s are usually 300$. So my question is can i use the fks 18 at its lowest din setting? I set my dins at 8 wich is the minimum on an fks 18 and i have heard from some peoplethat it is ok to do this and others say it is not ok,
The only reason i am even considering this binding is because it is cheaper
The otherworrie i have that the waist of my skis is 85mm and the bindings are 95mm
+k for any help

You can and it would work fine. My little bro does but his are on 5 with the 14. But it's recommended that you stay more in the middle like an 11 or 12

I wouldn't recommend it. The reason it works ok for your little bro is because he probably weighs 60 pounds and doesn't ski very hard. OP. get the 14s. Pay 40$ more. If you go with the 18s and set them at 8 you will likely have a lot of Pre-releases. For safety and function I'd get the 14s.

^not that i entirely dissagree with you but dont binding companies have to have consitant dins because of the standards set by whoever came up with the din system? I heard that on a thread once and it makes sense but i really have no idea, another thing to consider is i am growing still

essentially you don't want your setting at the extreme ends of your din range for any particular binding. don't get the 18s, imo, get the 14s. plus you can definitely find fks 14s for cheaper. buy last year's fks 14s in person at a shop. plus if you buy in a shop, you'll probably get free or at least discounted mounting.

OP why are you buying FKS? You just said you never set it past 8. You could spend $200 and get a binding that's a perfect fit for you.
EX bindings: Griffon, STH driver 12, Axial2 120, Tyrolia peak13. Even a squire or axuim would work great.
Why in gods name does every kid think he needs a 18 or 14 din binding on their skis?

^ if he rides at 8 the 14s would be prefect for him. Not sure why you would think otherwise

But a 12 din binding would be equally good but cheaper. The STH 12 driver for example has a range of 4-12, putting 8 bag in the middle. The STH 12 is also the same construction as the STH 14 so just as durable, but he should be able to find them for about $200 not $300.

Ive thought about buying those, the reason I wanted an fks is for the heal peice, and like i said befor i would never even consider an 18 din binding if was not the cheeper option

Why should he get shitty plastic bindings (Squire, Axium etc) if he doesn't run a high din? I run din 8-9 and I only have Pivots and Jesters, because I still break lesser bindings. Durability and din scale are two different things.

listen to this OP. either a 12 or 14 will work for you, just make sure its a quality binding

The way it sounded at the beginning of the this thread was OP just wanted to get a deal on bindings.
But as the OP said right above he wants FKS for the heel piece which is a better reason than the usual "they look cool" response that most NS'rs give when they want to buy FKS. Maybe I came off as a bit of Dick. Sorry if I did.
I'd argue that squire and axium are not "shitty". Lower ability bindings yes but not shitty. To the correct rider they would be a good fit.
And for a ski that you may be selling anyway in 1 or 2 years, it's easier to sell if the skis if they have a binding with some play. If they are mounted with some FKS your most likely not gonna sell them with the ski cause their FKS, so you then have to take money off the price cause of a prior mounted ski.
Obviously I'm getting off topic off here but just some food for thought.
OP I say get 14s if your gonna get FKS. Or some used 12s if you can find them.

Thanks for the advise,
Are there any shop techs out there who can shed light on the debate of setting a binging to its lowest/highest setting?

If, for example, your DIN is 8 and the binding starts at 8 there should not be a problem (provided that the binding is functional).
However, if you run the max of the DIN range, this will lead to inconsistent releases because the spring is fully compressed and without elasticity.

Look into the fks 155. They're discontinued, but you can find them used all over the place. They have the same bombproof all metal construction that the fks 180/185 has (as opposed to the plastic toe of the 140), but with a 6-15 din, which is a lot more friendly for lighter/less chargey users. You can also find them for around $150, and save 100 bucks for lift tickets or whatever.

18s > 14s
the 18s are metal. 14s, plastic.
No, it doesn't matter if you run an 18 on the lowest setting. That's what i do. I have no such problem with pre-releases.
