Thoughts on tamron 17-50

I got a T2i and i shoot a lot of landscape and skateboarding and skiing.

I was thinking about getting the tamron 17-50, I was wondering what you guys thought of it and if the glass is good?

hoping to hear from people who actually have it or used it not just random people guessing thanks!

PS: i know there are other threads kinda like this just havnt found what i was looking for so id thought i would try sorry for post jamming.

most people on here will recommend it, myself included. I just recently sold mine because I have no problems using prime lenses, but for a mid-range zoom it's a great purchase.

Def. go with the Non-VC version, it has better build quality and it's sharper

Ya i dont think the VC is very necessary either so that doesnt bother me thanks for your input.

have you ever tried using the Rokinon 8mm fisheye? I have a lot of mixed reviews about it so im kinda hesitant to but it.

i haven't used it. I've heard it's a great fisheye but I personally don't like lenses that wide, it gives it the skater/gopro look

Ya i used to hate the fisheye look but im starting to get into it. I think it would be nice to have to use every once in awhile for ski pics and maybe try some landscape with it.

Ya i dont really wanna spend a grand on the canon fisheye hah its not worth to me.

I have both the Tamron 17-50 and Rokinon 8mm for my T2I. I haven't had my setup that long, but the Tamron is a dope, sharp lens and a great deal. You can do follow cams and as well as get longer shots and good B-Roll/ lifestyles.
I really like the Rokinon 8mm as well, but it's really up to you if you want that fisheye look. As stated above it can look very much like a Gopro if you don't use good fisheye filming technique such as keep it low, find good angles, ect... It also doesn't seem as wide as the classic VX/HXV fisheye that you see in many skate/snowboard videos. I would def get it as a skate/snow/ski lens action lens, but it's not that awesome for other things like inside of buildings, tight spaces, ect... bc you get that weird barreled distortion.

Purchased from this fine, modern gentleman. But I love it, it's so much sharper and well built than my kit lens, pretty much no distortion, etc. Great lens.

Both the Tamron and Samyang (Rokinon in the USA because of a dispute with Samsung) are great options if you are on a budget. You get a lot of value for your money.

The Tamron has some mediocre bokeh, and the Samyang fish eye is soft wide open, making it useless in low light. That said you pay very little for those lenses.

On a Canon t2i your options are limited anyway. The Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 and 10.5mm f/2.8 fish eye blow the Tamron and Samyang out of the water. Canon never made such professional-grade crop sensor lenses. Also, the Samyang fish eye for micro 4/3 is spectacular. Rather than buying an expensive fish eye lens, it might be worth it to buy a cheap $250 micro 4/3 body and the Samyang fish eye for it. It is just so much sharper than the Canon/Nikon version.
