Online High School

alright i know there have been a couple threads about this but looking for any advice or useful comments. I might have the chance to move out to colorado next year and do online school, it would be my senior year of High School. for the people who have done online schooling- is it worth it? what program did you use? +k to anyone with a helpful reply

well if you want to go to college i think online school shows up as an alternative school on your record which kinda hurts your chances. but if you just wanna get your diploma and ski go for it

Why not just get your Good Enough Degree and skip it? Not like college is a priority anyway.

finish your highschool. I assume you could ski a shit ton if you went online but unless you are the next huge trend in skiing stay in school. You still probably get away with 2 days a week, which is more than most people at your age, and still have a good chance of getting into a good college

saw some kid ranting about it on facebook I think people need to understand that going to school doesn't mean you receive a better education than someone who does online school. Some people don't prefer the way teacher's teach their students and are stuck in their classes and are unable to focus/learn etc... If school has come so far as being able to be done online and at your own convenience, why are your morals so far superior that you
got a better education from brick and mortar schooling? Besides, the sufficient education for our graduation is going to not need half of the things that are being forced down their throats in school. My money's on computers being able to fulfill 60% of todays jobs by 2025. If I can receive an education that's just as standard as an education most other kids receive at high school, and I can wake up at noon, maybe get a full time job when I get a car, stay up late, enjoy my teen years, then I'll take it any day.

Brick and Mortar school = Online school (education wise)
Brick and Mortar school < Online school (enjoyment, financial, and mental wise)

yeah i should be getting at least 3 days a week this year so it'll be fine either way but figure if i could get out to co and live the dream why not? i have to do some more research first though but very helpful +k

Not true. It shows up just the same as any other public high school would on your transcript. The education you get at online school is no different than one you would get at your public school. I switched going into my junior year of high school and it was the best decision I have made. I live in Colorado and during the winter I spend 5-6 days a week skiing and a couple hours every night doing school work getting credit for the same classes I could have taken at my local school. It offered me more AP classes and gave me more time to ski. If you have any questions feel free to PM.

Honestly, unless you are 99% sure you are going to become a pro skier, it's probably not worth it. You can always go to college near the mountains once you finish high school. Are you really willing to just drop everything and dip out on all your friends/everything you know to get a few extra days skiing per week? I feel like unless you have no friends, the social aspect of going to a real high school vs online school would be worth it alone. Finish school and go to college in Colorado (assuming you get in).

just move to new york, when i was in high school i could ski from 3 till 9-10pm every school night if i wanted to. The 'mountain' sucked, but i could ski a lot

Just finish high school. Then move out to Colorado for college. Senior year is the best year anyway.

last year I did kind of half and half, there were some credits I needed to graduate in Canada (I just moved back to Canada for senior year) so I took those classes online. Its good but you really half to do your work. I find its definitely a lighter work load in total but the assignments you do require more time then regular school.
Also maybe you can just do it for 1 semester and still be able to graduate at your high school?

I took online physics last year in HS so I could get my Regents Scholarship for college. For me the class itself wasn't bad probably because i love science in a totally nerdy way. But I ended up procrastinating 2 terms of the class to the last 2 weeks of school. Lets just say that everyday my parents came home I was either building a pendulum, perpetual motion device, automated handjob, and a bunch of other neat shit. I reacquired my 12 year old lego buliding skills in the process.

Over all the class was easy for me and I enjoyed it cause my online professor is a Physics professor up at the University of Utah and shes super chill and had a really easy curriculum to follow. I'd just recommend that you set aside 4+ hours a day to do the work just like you would for normal school. Otherwise with a full schedule of classes, you'll get fucked to the point where you can't catch up. I was almost there and I was only taking 1 class.

THIS!! lol I ended up procrastinating hard with my classes, 1 I didnt finish but still got credit for it and another they gave me an extension on. But yeah, be really structured especially since you would be skiing a lot.

Weirdly I agree with you on this one. OP go to regular high school and then either go to college near the mountains. or take a year off and travel/ski bum in all the places you've wanted to. Enter into comps do what we all love to do and just ski. I wouldn't suggest ever dropping out of school for skiing unless you know you will be a pro and you're getting paid or have enough money/ parental support to sustain the lifestyle.
