I say "nearly killed" because "surviving" doesn't really apply here as it seems there was no line drawn at all, but maybe for the forsight of Hill and Plake to move camp to slightly higher ground... but even still their tent was swept away.

I am glad for the survivors and I mourn the losses of many

the last paragraph there is so important. even skinning the "hills" of the wasatch, relative to mt manaslu, this is something that i need to double check with myself. you cant let gts'ing cloud your common sense.

Must have been such an eerie feeling at first sight of the camps in such an exposed area - and judging by the third photo, it looks REALLY exposed.

Fairly amazing that only 9 people died in a slide that size.

Just an incredible tragedy. So sad. Greg's account is very, very creepy. It will definitely make me think twice about my decisions in the mountains.
