I know not much is happening yet with getting in, but what schools are you guys applying to? Which ones are your top choices?

muhlenberg rules....got two good friends who go there and play lax i go down and rage sometimes with them on the weekends. Its a small school but good vibes and a good time

well i got denied from umd (FUUUCKKK) anyone know if i can appeal that? just to give it a shot

Kids, don't be stupid, if you go to an out-of-state public school take a year off to work in that state to establish residency. You'll save tens of thousands of dollars. Trust me, there's no rush to jump in.

My list is UVM, Skidmore, Middlebury, Lewis&Clark, Pitzer, and UMass as my ultimate safety, hopefully won't be going there though

pretty much if you aint rocking that vineyard vine or brooks brothers you wont fit in, middlebury is full of stuck up new england assholes. unless your from outside NE you really will not realize this because you grew up in this type of atmosphere and are immune to it. poor midd kid act rich and rich midd kids act poor, its a very fucked up type of atmosphere.

Yeah I did get that vibe when I visited, but the truth is if I got in I would probably get more financial aid from them than I would from UVM. And gotta make mam happy.

Dartmouth, Harvard, Williams, Amherst, Brown, Cornell, etc. Get the idea?

If you're going to throw Texas (Rice) in with the California schools then it would only be fair to throw New York in with the New England schools. Both regions have plenty of esteemed Universities. California definitely wins for weather, and beats New England for access to, and quality of resorts.

Rice doesn't fit geographically, and Reed isn't a good college. Other than that, you're right that California is loaded with good schools.

You can't really make that argument. There are good schools on both side of the country but there's certainly more of them out East. There's nothing as dense as the NESCAC schools anywhere else in the country. If you want to step out of the liberal arts world and compare universities then New England still dominates.

I also happen to be from Seattle and I'm about to finish off my first semester at Colby. It's a classic New England liberal arts school. While you're correct that there's a lot of the your stereotypical NE people out here, they are certainly not an overwhelming majority. They are also very easy to get along with unless you spend your whole time analyzing their Patagonia and J.Crew. If you were to come out here you might even find that they are generally wonderful people.

New England schools bring in a large collection of students from around the world. They are great places to get an education and I'm 100% confident that I made the right decision.

Are you serious??? Reed is one of the or the most difficult school in the country, if you knew anything about Reed you would not even make that comment. More Reed students go on to earn their phd's than any other university.

You mean the Reed College that is ranked a whopping 75th on the usnews rankings of liberal arts colleges and only gives their students pass/fail grades? Yes, that Reed College is a terrible school. I would never pay private school tuition to send my kids there. They'd get a better education from pretty much any other school.
