Im trying to decide which ski i want for next season, planning on hitting a lot of rails, and spins off jumps that are 25-30 foot max. so should i go with Atomic Punx or Icelantic Da' Nollie's?
Both are relatively soft, symmetrical park skis with full traditional camber. The main difference is construction, in which the da'nollies are definitely superior.
Oh atomics construction is great as well, icelantics is just slightly burlier i.e. The same durasurf bases on3p uses and non abs sidewalls. Abs works, but uhmw and the ptex icelantic uses are better. Also, they're made in America so I guess you would be bolstering our economy more if you bought icelantic. I love atomic and will probably be picking up some autos this year, but specifically between these two skis, I think the icelantic wins out.
Thanks for showing interest in the Automatics! If you snag a pair, you will be pretty stoked for sure.
Just for sake of putting my facts on the table, the bases we use in the Punx, Automatic, and basically all of our adult skis are from 7000 series p-tex, which is the same grade of base we use on our commercial race skis. Ultra durable, ultra fast.
We use this base on all of our adult sintered bases, ensuring the highest performance and durability possible. Higher end bases exist but you'll have to break into our World Cup race room to get them.
love my punx. just bought the second pair. the thicker edges now makes the skis alot better. its just so fun, adgile, lively and quick. cant go wrong with the punx
@onenerdykid Thanks a lot for the info, I had no idea about the bases. I thought the punx used an extruded base and the 7000 certainly bumps up it's value, especially retailing at 400. Not to threadjack, but do you know the position of the reccommended mount in relation to true center on the automatics? I haven't been able to find it anywhere...
It's a shame we don't talk about the base quality more in our catalogs and such (mainly because it is too technical for most any European shop). Like you said, having a 7000 series base on $400 ski is certainly not the norm.
Concerning the Automatic mounting point, I find the recommended marks to be a bit set back (labeled "center" is definitely not measured center). Therefore, I chose to mount mine at 1cm back from labeled "center". And for what it's worth, everyone on our team is either at labeled "center" or 1cm back. Hope that helps.
Do you hapoen to know how far back labeled center is from true? Thanks and sorry for the topic change; we can get back to talking about park skis after this
