Mounting bindings by yourself.

I just got in my new skis and bindings and want to know if i should mount them myself or take it to a ski shop or something like that. Please help

Well if you're asking, then you should probably bring them to a shop.

Using a paper jig and the right drill bit with a whole bunch of patience and accuracy works just fine, but it is not too difficult to fuck it up.

its really straight forward but pretty easy to mess up. ive mounted all my skis. just take your time and make sure you know what your doing. if you dont feel at all comfortable in any way, dont do it. but if you do sack up, just remember to relax, they are just skis and can always be redrilled or repaired. measure twice, drill once

Mounting your own skis is like buying high din bindings; if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't do it

ive been mounting my urban beater skis myself just cause the racer tech dudes at my shop wouldnt mount them because they were too beat up and they didnt understand what i meant by having a ski that i wasnt gonna ski on the mountain with so i decided to do it myself. didnt work well maybe its just summer setups are tough on skis but the toepieces have ripped out 5 or 6 times just since the end of the season sooo my mounting skills obivously arent the best so unless you know what youre doing itd just bring them to a shop

It's either that your not the best at mounting or your ski has a soft core that can't hold the screws. My summer setup ski bindings are being held in by 2/3 screws(supposed to be 4) and they hold fine, set a din of 10 and they don't rip out, so It could well be your ski/mount, also @op get a shop to mount them, I don't like mounting my own skis unless they're cheap shitty ones that I won't do any proper skiing on.

theyre punisher jibs idk i think they have a wood core but its probably the screws i use its pretty ghetto i just took old screws i found in my house and drilled them in so i think that was it

defiantly bring it to a shop, they know what they are doing, and although you can mount them on your own it is difficult, and if you fuck up you are screwed

Mount up the bindings on some 2x4. You can't really fuck up the binding, and you can really get the idea of what the process is. My one piece of advice is if you mount them yourself using a paper jig, really check the jig against the bindings, cause if the printer settings are even a little off you're fucked

That is definitely it...there is more to the process than just putting a few wood screws directly into the ski.

Contemplating mounting a set of skis myself, I found some paper templates that should help. What is the best glue to use in the holes? any tips? specific bits?
I am also very competent with a drill and tape measure.

Just did a pair of mine with the paper templates printed off TGR's 'Mount your own fucking skis' thread. Key things were:

Make sure your printer prints the templates at 100% scale. Measure after to make sure.
Accurately measure and draw on the ski centerline (lengthways)
Mark your mount point. Measure from the tails cos you cant always trust the top sheet markings.
Punch holes in the templates at your BSL (So you can see your lines through the hole)
Tape those templates down real good.
Measure again and check centreline
Smash a centre punch into all the screw hole marks

I took 3.5mm drill bit, wrapped a piece of electrical tape around at the 9.5mm mark to judge depth and went for it.
Used a large bit just to counter sink the holes a little and a squeeze of regular wood glue.

Next time i'll use better tape, the masking tape came unstuck a few times and caused some of my holes to be a fraction out of alignment. Thankfully I noticed before i put drill to ski.
Also I didn't go quite deep enough on a couple holes. Measure that 9.5mm carefully and then trust yourself to go full depth else you'll be taking bindings off again and re drilling.

Don't forget that the sth 10 uses the z series template not the sth. It's 4 holes in the heel and 3 in the toe.

Paper templates suck to mount with unfortunately so unless you really need to save money may be best just to take them to a shop rather then potentially messing something up.

Yeah, noticed that about the three holes. Ill print off the templates and mark them out and then measure them and see how i feel about it. I have a bottoming bit so that will help.

Drill your template into clear plexiglass, then you can dimension and center the mount much easier with less chance to screw up . Measure measure measure !
