Detune edges?

I'm new to rails and jumps and last year i just hit boxes, they were easy straight on but if i went sideways my skis would catch.
I thought i had done everything right but i dont know
My edges were brand new and super super sharp....
I heard i should detune them but how... just take a file to them?

i usually detune the factory tun my skis come with, by just somewhat rounding them off with a file..works for me though

it depends how far you wanna go

if your gonna do park 24/7 and you live in the rockies you round them all the way, but if you ski all mountain you can just wear them in by taking a finer grit sand paper, like 240, and just run a couple of passes over the edges

when i get a new set of sticks i put um in a vice and go to town with a metal file working about a 2 ft section underfoot all the way rounded, they still stick a little for a week or so but then they slide like butter

I just use a file and go till they are not sharp anymore, but only under foot so you can still cave a little

i usually just take one of those knife sharpeners, you have lying around the house and run it down the edges at a 45 degree angle

i detune underfoot from about the toe of the boot to the heel as it sits in the binding. this gives you a good intital footprint to slide on.

i also like to detune at the very end of the taper in the tip and tail. keeps the skis from being hooky.

ive honestly never heard of someone detuning their skis. hit some rails a few times and theyll be fine. ive never caught an edge on a rail and i only tune my skis every once in a while.
