I have no idea how people can live on that. I make $13 an hour and work an average of 45 to 50 hours a week and I have times when I'm pretty broke (ie. about 300 bucks to my name I would classify as broke)

Yeah it changed recently but when you were working there minimum was $8.50. Either way you got gypped for working at that shitty cafe and losing money.

Agreed. Let the value of the labor dictate the compensation. For the vast majority, any half-way competent person out of high school is going to have a job that pays more than the current minimum wage anyways. Younger folks could get some great experience earlier on if employers were not forced to pay them more than what they are worth, but for a large group of 15 year old kids, they are not worth the minimum wage.

Yea but you have to change that into US dollars, so its around $11 US. But I'm going to guess it's cheaper to live here in NZ, so we win by heaps still.
Australia shits on everyone, it's like $15, and their dollar is pretty much the same as the US.
