What got you into freesking?

Search-barred and didn't find anything on this.

So basically stated already, either a video or something in your life got you interested in this awesome sport, so what was it?

If its a video and you know where to find, please embed it, should be interesting to see where people first got interest.

for me it was just riding switch down the hill and that progressed to the park.

I was gaping in the park and some 30 year old dude taught me how to do the little ride on rails while he was teaching his nephew or son or whatever. I was around 11 and i loved it. It was either that or my old racing coach years back took us to the park and got us sliding boxes side ways and it was a great feeling even when you fell sliding a box for the first time sideways. I kept trying to progress through the following years and now i am where i am today.

i always liked jumps growing up skiing like any kid. then watching some ski movies like high society, soul purpose and some warren miller movies i starting just skiing the terrain garden in whistler with my mom... and then seven sunny days was a game changer for me. still my favorite ski movie. really made me get into skiing and freeskiing.

I started to explore the park the winter of 7th grade, I was a VERY big gaper, then that spring/late winter I found this copy of freeskier in my English teachers class room (he is a big skier, and now owns a shop) Click for larger image I remember seeing a UA add of somebody wall riding a fence and think it was the coolest thing in the world. I proceeded to go to their site and watch edits and then I found out about NS, I came here (not knowing about the forums) thinking well this is boring, and going back to freeskiers site haha. In that issue they had movie reviews, I was then introduced to the wonderful world of ski films, I saw the review of level 1's turbo and had to see it, being the gaper I was I called up my local movie rental shop and asked them if they had it hahha, they guy was so confused. It pretty much all went from there. Inb4 cool story bro

I was skiing since I was 2, so basically my parents.

And in terms of "Freeskiing", well I didnt run gates until I was about 9, and didnt train seriously until 11-12, so freeskiing was just natural skiing for me.

I was snowboarding. I went to the local store to pick up a copy of That's It, That's All.

They had CLAIM playing on a TV. That was my last year snowboarding.

I was a total snowboard gaper who rode maybe twice a year, and my friend (bigairkid) was a skier and always told me how much more fun it was. Being the "zomg shawn white" snowboard gaper i was, I still thought skiing was gay until i saw this on the windells podcast. that was two years ago, now i ski every weekend.

Man, this thread makes me feel kinda old. I got into freeskiing way back when the OG 1080 came out. I remember the three Philipe's, Tanner's switch 7 winner, Mike Nick and Mike Wilson killin it on the skiboards before Line even made skis, CR's first pro model, all that and more got me into freeskiing. If anything, the skiboarders at the time showed me the progression possible, and when Line switched to skis, I dropped my Line 5-0 skiboards for a set of 1260's and that was it.

THIS VIDEO, oh my god i watched it so many times. Probably my first video to get me really inspired for freeskiing. I think I first saw it on an old crappy ass gateway computer haha

SNOWBOARDING!!!

back 8 years ago when there wasnt many freeskiers, i looked to snowboarders hitting the park and it inspired me to try it on my skis.

was hoooooked!

I was a gaper guy who slays like 3 times in year.Than i saw on mountain 2 kids with twin tips who make safety grabs,180 and 360 and i though that's was the coolest thing ever.I get know one of the guys name and finde him on one webpage where he was posted this old JOI video.After that i start to find cheapest twin tip skis.Till next season i got a pair of dynstar trouble maker and cheap rachel type boots and some crappy free ski bindings what skiing hill owner throw away.And in first day i get to know with these guys and now we are the best friends ever for 5 years who share a passion about skiing.

P.s. i can't beli cant believe that they throw dubs in 2007. :D

I've been a skier since I was 3 years old. I remember being introduced to freeskiing right after Jonny Moseley threw his 360 Mute grab in the '98 Olympics. I remember when the first twin tips came out (Salomon 1080s). Then after I saw 13 (one of the first freestyle skiing movies) I was hooked. I got myself a pair of 1080s and have been ripping ever since (I'm 27 now). I'm proud to say I've been a part of this sport pretty much since it started.

Probably lurking on this site a while ago. I got tired of racing in like 4th or 5th grade because I weigh practically nothing which meant I had no chance on the usual course they set at my mountain. After that I was into pretty much whatever, From Moguls to trees to just bombing runs as fast as I could. Expanded out to Newschool a year or two ago.

I always loved watching this video though, even back when I raced

I started snowboarding when I was in 6th grade. Two years after that my friend and I switched because he wanted to try snowboarding. I took his skis and by my third run ever on skis i was skiing switch and sliding boxes. I think it helped that I ice skated for 10 years. The year after I bought skis and never looked back. Now I've been skiing for two years and with the help of a few of my good friends they've really helped me progress. Shortly after I found Newschoolers and lurked for awhile until a week ago I finally decided to make an account.

I switched to snowboarding when I was around 14 because I wanted to do park and being that Mt. High was my home mountain I didn't know park skiing existed. After a few years I started to miss skiing and did a little bit of both, but never hit the park with my non-twintip skis. I was out of the country for one winter and the next one I figured it was time for a new snowboard, about a week before I bought it I saw this video on the Red Bull website. I really had no idea people were doing stuff like that on skis, got myself a pair of scratch ghettos and been skiing ever since.

Living in Park City, some kids just started doing it and it exploded and pretty much all of the guys end up at least trying and a bunch stick with it through high school
