I've actualy seen somebody filming like this. Looks kinda dumb but it's a pretty good idea. Shoot stills and movies at the same time, wide and long at the same time, or just never miss a shot.

Temporary mount until I order something more legit.

I took apart the suction cup mount for the gopro connector. The holes connecting the mount peices together are 1/4 inch.

Found an lcd screen adapter for the hotshoe and used the screws from the hotshoe and spacers from various things i've left around and just screwed it together with the top screw to the lcd mount.

I have a friend who is a photojournalist who does this, always has a GoPro on his 5D that is always filming so he never misses anything. It has got him some really unique videos and photos.

on a related subject: has anyone ever tried the inverse?

I want to mount my 7D on the suction cup with a tripod adapter so i can put the camera on a car while rolling to shoot video clips. It would be very low speeds of course.

you attach the tripod mount, get a screw that is the right length and bam, everything holds. My only hesitation is towards the weight of the camera. I have tested the suction cup and that thing is fucking strong. it can lift a good sized table. I might run some tests with the camera on it, mount it to a surface and shake it hard to see how resistant it is.

Just to let you know I was filming drifting some weeks ago and we mounted a go pro to one of the cars (with the suction cup) and it fell off after 10minutes of driving, so I don't think I would have risked trying to put my 7d on their even at low speed..

I dont know how you mounted it because i used my goprosuction cup feom montreal to oregon and back, thats 110 hours of driving, mostly at 120+ km/h

This, for a video we once mounted a professional suction mount on the bow of an old Volvo Open 60 boat. It was mounted as solid as a rock, but after around 30min. it fell of, luckily we had it tethered to a line.

Lens hood was broken though when the camera bounced against the boat.

Those suction cups are kinda sketchy, I barely trust it with my gopro. It just loses suction unexpectedly for me.

Tether it or use two suction cups and find a way to rig it to both.

I was taking photos of the Space Shuttle landing in LA today and I saw a guy with his GoPro mounted on his DSLR. It looks like he glued some sort of hot shoe mount.

Also this, if you haven't seen this, check it out. But 1:20 you could do too.

I've seen photojournalists with GoPros mounted on top of their hot-shoe flash, but that's only if you've got a flash and plan on using it on-camera.

Haven't read the entire thread, but to OP - I've been working on some ideas to do this for a mini BTS campaign as some more/bigger projects come along. A major consideration - how will you be operating the camera? If you are on a Glidecam, be careful about the way in which the GoPro is mounted in terms of the flexibility of the mount. If you are on a stabilizer and mount via the GoPro hinged mount, you will need to either pick an angle and lock it down very tightly, or need to rebalance every time you take the GoPro in and out of the housing or change the angle of the GoPro.

Just some initial thoughts if any of this helps. Will try to get a minute later to read everyone's posts. Sorry if any of this was redundant.

Get at least a two point suction cup, I have mounted my DSLR to a car for drifting before and it has held fine, my friend has mounted his hundreds of times, but i wouldn't do it with anything less than a two point

we've been wondering when will photographers start mounting gopros and other cameras on their dslrs to capture video throughout the shoot? we've been trying such things for a couple years with amazing video results! we call it 9shooting or 45surfing with a 9shooter or 45surfer :)

the less we edit the video, the more our fans love them, as it takes them to the photoshoot. :)

I forgot i made this but the rig worked out great. I took parts from a couple different mounts and pieces of plastic i found around the house. It was easily able to point it in pretty much any direction fairly fast which was very helpful. Just can't see anything on those gopro screens in the sun. I'd definitely use it again. It was on my t4i
