2012 Loonies and toonies don't work in vending machines. They're too light.


On the up side, when I went to get my toonie from the return slot, I found a dollar already in there.

the vending machines at my school eat your money every time so noone uses them. so not a problem for me but thanks for the head sup you good Samaritan you.

it's because they're entirely steel now with only a coating of brass. before 2011 they were mostly nickle.

I actually tried this when I was much younger. took a washer and filled the centre with solder then filed it down to the same weight (within 0.05 grams) and almost exactly the same dimensions.

it didn't work.

meh. I couldn't have been more than 10 when I tried it. so I'm sure it was even worse than I remember. don't care to retry though.
