dude i know this is a total repost but search bar is as useless as a swiss cheese condum. but i know that im not good enough but how good do have to be to be sponsored, mostly like big mountain and freeride.

Yea the only requirements are being able to ski slide, pencil 360, and hold a gopro at the sky.

Also this is such a retarded topic. Just ski for fucking fun, progress, compete at some local hill. Small comps in the beginning, rail jams, stuff like that. If youre good enough people will fucking offer you a sponsorship.

Dont ski to get sponsored, ski for fun and if you dont feel like competing, film yourself and send in a small edit (with no dubstep please) to some companies.

I friend of mine that rides for saga and rossignol told me that (for example) The head /leader/boss of for instance rossignol doesnt care if you send in a mail to him saying "Oh hey i can totally do triple cork 1620 octo grabz and 450 on 720 swap super-fed". That 50 year old family father sitting at his office ordering new skis for next season doesnt really get stuff like that nor does he care how sick tricks you can do.

He cares about how good you are willing to get and what ambitions you have for the future.

What is with every middle class 12 year old skier wanting to be sponsored? I don't understand the logic. Unless you are a middle school aged Tod Walnutz, you are not going to be getting free ski gear or money. I dunno why kids want to be sponsored so bad.

It's a benchmark, I guess. When you're young and have time to progress, free stuff and claiming sponsorship seem quite appealing. And then you grow out of it.

Pretty pointless to try and get sponsored these days since you have to be on the Olympic route. Filming is going to die and its all going to be a bunch of jocs in the sport chucking triples. U have to compete, market yourself, and kiss ass as much as as you can to all the sponsors. TM's and Reps love that shit!

Welp, honest answer: It's mostly about skiing well obviously, but also making yourself known and making connections. You can start by talking to a local shop and if you're one of the best in the area, probably getting a small deal. As you stand out from others and advocate for yourself by talking to reps you can get sponsored

Yeah the short answer is 'not very good.' Your going about it backwards though. Sponsorship is what happens as a result of being well connected in the industry. People want to give you their gear for free because its likely if people see you hyping a product they will buy it. From what ive seen its something that just happens for people rather than something they set as a specific goal

yeah you dont have to be very good at all. I ride for a shop the guy really helps me out with tuning and gear and the biggest trick ive done is a seven and got sponsored when i sent the edit in thats in my sig. Just gotta know a lot of people

Getting sponsored is not about what tricks you can throw, Its about being a respectable person with good people skills, that will help sell their product. Find a small startup ski company and send the owner an email about how you can help them sell their skis. Send in a video, and if you are halfway decent with a good attitude and a good plan of how you can help the business, they will be more than happy to send you a couple pairs of skis.

Another thing to think about is filming and editing skills. They will not want to have their logo on an edit that looks like it was put together by 10 year olds with a cell phone and imovie. If your video looks professional, it will help you out a lot, even if the skiing isnt spectacular.
