Oh, and I forgot - there's no need to specify "Euclidean Space". Vector spaces only ever occur in Euclidean space. It makes more sense to say n-many vectors in R^n, or n-dimensional vector space.

Related to eigenvalue equations by any chance? We're starting quantum in p chem, haven't found out where those come into play yet.

Yes Eigenvalues are solutions the equation Ax = \lambdax, or, more succinctly, the time-dependent growth or decay of a set of vectors, and those vectors for which we solve by solving for Ax = \lambdax given our eigenvalues that are in the direction of Ax are the eigenvectors. Eigenspaces are simply the composition of eigenvectors into an nxn matrix.

Makes sense, and he did say we're going to do some matrix stuff. Shit's interesting, I need some time to sit down and read it more. I should be calculating some stuff right meow...

So math/computer people, equation editors, what's a good one? Preferably free, that I can download. Needs to do all the fancy stuff, then allow an insertion into a word processor, so I don't have to spend an eternity entering them in ms word.

Texmaker is the gold standard, but Word2012 has a fine equation editor built in.

Anyone good at statistics? I'm on the probability chapter and i'm stuck on a few questions that seem pretty easy, i just cant seem to figure them out.

Don't use word. Learn LaTeX. I just threw this together in less than 10 mins to demonstrate.

Trust me, it's not as complicated as it looks.

The only disadvantage to using latex is the learning curve. If you already typset equations using LaTeX then you will make stuff faster than word on your first go. It will only take you a few articles before you are working more efficiently in LaTeX. It takes care of EVERYTHING. Separating your document into sections, numbering sections, equations figures, etc. cross refrencing figures, citations. There is just no comparison between word and LaTeX.

The best part though is that you don't need to dive in headfirst. With exams coming up and stuff you probably don't want to waste time learning LaTeX right now.However you can get (most) of the benefits of LaTeX and still have a childlike environment similar to word. All you need to do is download "LyX", it's totally free. Then you can drag word to the trash because you will never use it again.

haha I can't believe I just wasted like 15mins doing that. I really have no life.

I think I'll have time next week to do stuff, I have a huge winter break so my exams aren't till the end of may almost. My spring break starts next week, the 22nd or something.

If anybody wants to help me analyze IR and proton NMR spectra though... I was dumb and waited till the last minute, lab report is due at 6 today.

oh and arabian already mentioned TeXmaker which is just a program to help you work even faster. it can do things like showing your document structure and giving advanced syntax coloring and automatic completion and stuff.

This thread still in use? I'm stuck on 2 physics problems. I missed the class we went over this.

1. The magnetic force on a straight wire 0.30 m long is 2.6 x 10^-3 N. The current in the wire is 15.0 A. What is the magnitude of the magnetic field that is perpendicular to the wire?

Is the formula for that one ^ F=BIL ? But it would B=IL/F? Could be wrong.

Next one:

2. An electron moving perpendicular to a magnetic field of 4.60 x 10^-3 T follows a circular path of radius 2.80 mm. What is the electron's speed?

Any help is appreciated. I realize these are pretty simple but I'm lost. Fuck missing school lol
