but in my opinion it's atleast a step in the right direction.
I agree that it is at least in part, probably a large part, a result of people not knowing what to do with themselves. People have an ingrained need to be part of something - a movement, a subculture, whatever. We're freeskiers, for example. So I agree with you on that.
But the idea that people need some common enemy to see as an opposing force and rally around the flag to defeat that opposing force is silly. It's also destructive. A real capitalist should not be seeing this as a "their team vs. mine" scenario. I would also ask on what basis you're measuring China, because in a lot of respects they're much farther along than 1:3.
