Hockey Players of NS

To all my hockey players out there. I used to play when I was younger in my preteens for a travel team, but when i got into high school i felt like I didn't have enough time to play anymore and stopped. Now that I'm out in Boston at college I wanted to start playing again in an intramural league, and I was wondering if anyone could give me suggestions for good beginner/intermediate skates and sticks.

Inb4 google, I already did and I got a few suggestions but i do trust you guys with this kind of stuff.

Skates are kinda like ski boots, you gotta try them on and see what fits best. As for sticks, you dont need to spend hundreds. For intramural its not that big of a deal

ya man, you gotta try a bunch on and decide which one fits you best.
every company makes entry model to really high end.
find a company whos fit you like, choose a skate from that company within your budget, wheeeeeeeel.

just a heads up too, i bought my bauer 195's used, season old, off kijiji for $175. they retailed for close to $800.
deals are to be had if you dont mind year old, slightly used skates.

as for sticks, its alllllll personal preference.
find one you like, snipe.

Don't get a stick with a Coffey curve unless you want to shoot out the lights in your rink. I'd recommend a curve that has a slight up curve on the toe, can't remember names of them that well.

Go to a store that stocks a big wall of hockey products and try things on until you get stuff you're comfortable with. You should be very well equipped to make this kind of decision - buying hockey skates really isn't that different from buying ski boots. It's more about what fits your foot than anything else, particularly at the recreational level. As with ski boots, stiffer generally = more advanced, and if you're playing intramural you don't need the stiffest boot ever. Same for gloves - what's comfortable? 

As far as sticks go, it's not going to make a big difference. Just get a 90 flex shaft and one of the more popular curves and go from there. There will be absolutely no way for anyone to give you advice on what curve to use - there is nothing in sports that screams "personal preference" than what blade you like and you won't be able to tell until you've played with a particular blade for a while. Personally I'm a fan of Easton's P3 (usually labelled Hall or Sakic) or Warrior's Zetterberg. But that's me - some people can snipe the shit out of the P8 whereas I don't understand how they aren't constantly whipping it over the net.

skates are like ski boots. they all fit differently according to your type of foot. one thing i would say though is if you were good in high school and you're an aggressive skater don't get cheap soft skates. i bought a pair of mid-level supremes because i couldn't afford an expensive pair of vapors and they were so soft and shitty and horrible. it was so worth it to shell out the extra couple hundred bucks to get something that could actually support my ankle and didn't feel like a pair of converse all stars with a blade attached
