England, Ireland or Scotland?

So I'm studying abroad in France this semester and I'm looking for advice on where I should travel. I really want to see more of UK and whatever that region is called. I've been to London, and it poured for the 4 days I was there so I didn't really enjoy it. Is there more to see in England? Is Ireland beautiful? Anything cool in Scotland?

Tell me where to go if I had a 4 day weekend to explore. Also, can anyone hook me and a friend up with a place to stay for a weekend?

I went to York (England) last month and it was amazing! You can do this Viking tour and they have roman ruins and yeah... just really beautiful and amazing. Northern England for me was so rad. Spent 10 days up there and loved it. Haven't done Ireland or Scotland yet, but I feel like defining England by what London has to offer is just wrong.

Thanks! I'll definitely check that out. I know what you mean about london, but I am leaning towards Ireland/Scotland as I haven't been there at all and that is where my family is from

Really do not define what the rest of the UK is like by London. London is like it's own little bubble - It's a completely different place to the rest of the uk.

I really like edinburgh - really pretty, nice buildings etc. You can go skiing at hillend on europes biggest dryslope, it has a chairlift etc.

Cambridge and oxford are the other places i would say are worth a visit. York, durham are nice too. Off the beaten track try Southwold and aldeburgh on the east coast - very pretty coastal towns. Depends on what you want really and how long you are going to stay for.

I live just outside of Cambridge, I wouldnt say it rains too much here, so if you wanted to avoid rain, probably try somewhere in the east.

I haven't spent much time in England and I've never been to Scotland, but I hear great things about the mountains in Scotland. I've spent most of my summers in southern Ireland and I can vouch for it's beauty. Dingle is an amazing place to hike. Mt.Brandon, Carrauntoohil, and Binn os Gaoith are all amazing hikes. If you are there in August the beaches are great. The water is very warm, but the air is a little cool. Go visit my village of Ballyheigue (it might say Baile Uí Thaidhg on the signs). Tralee is also a nice town with lots of nice pubs and festivities.

I went to Ireland about 10 years ago when i lived in Germany and it was one of the most amazing experiences ever. we just drove all around the southern part of the country; camping, fly fishing, exploring castles, and all sorts of other great stuff.... such an awesome country with the friendliest people ever DO IT!

YORKSHIRE YORKSHIRE!!!.............ehem, yeah, they're all nice places, but i like northern England the best (not biased at all).

Depends on what you want to do. Do you want culture (ruins, castles, history etc), sports, pubs, walks?

And come on man, its the UK, its always pissing it down!

I live in Gloucestershire (South-West) and there's a lot of "beautiful" scenery around here, Malvern Hills, Cotswolds... great for walks, which aren't really my thing, but my mum loves it and she says it's good. Apart from that, places like Oxford and York (previously mentioned) are interesting places I guess for old castles etc. And if you're gonna complain about rain, don't come to England. ;)

obviously i'm biased, but really no matter where you go you'll have an amazing time. England and Ireland are both beautiful countries as well, and really if i were you i would just go to them all haha

certainly don't base your opinion off london. it isn't like anywhere else i've been in the UK, and in my opinion the vast majority of the stuff here to see is outside of the cities.

Edinburgh is a great place to start in scotland since it is so old and historic, and i mean, it has a castle right in the middle of it, which is pretty fucking cool. the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of Scotland is absolutely mind-blowingly beautiful, and has so much on offer, especially if you enjoy photography like yourself, and if you like seafood, you'll be in heaven. the highlands are also mind-blowing, and if there's snow you can go skiing, or else hit up the various dryslopes around the country. Glasgow is great for shopping but for some reason it's never appealed to me anywhere near as much as Edinburgh.

I dont know England terribly well, but the scenery in the north and around the Lake District is amazing, and down near Cambridge and Oxford is really nice too.

Ireland is also great. you wanna go to Belfast, Dublin, then head over to the west for some stunning scenery.

other than that im not sure what to suggest that hasn't already been said, but i know for sure you'd have a great time in scotland, and if thats where your family is from it'd be great to see it for real

Scotland is definitely one of my favorites! but its completely preference. Anywhere in the UK is a must see, if you get the right places there is so much to do and so many nice people to welcome you wherever  you go !

If you go to England:

- Go to Cambridge, it's a great city with loads to do - go punting.

- Get rained on.

- Eat a traditional full English breakfast, see below.

- If you have time, go to the sea;

- You could visit the Cornwall area if you are into nice landscapes, seasides, fossils, and sheep.

- London (?), go to Kew Gardens, Piccadilly Street, and the London Eye

- Check out Stone Henge

- Go to bars / music festivals / events

I've been to Ireland 4 times and can say it was absolutely amazing each time. Tons of beautiful scenery, the people are extremely nice and welcoming, and it's just awesome. I would go into detail, but I'm on mobile so it's a bit hard to do so.

There's a lot too see and do in all 3. I live in England so I guess I've grown up taking for granted all the history and culture and what not, but yeah, there's tonnes. If you go to Scotland, Edinburgh is a great city and the highlands are beautiful but are so desolate! If you want a hint of civilisation around then I'd go to northern England instead which has similar countryside but is a bit closer to a few towns or cities. In England the south west coast is awesome and has some sweet seaside towns and some good water sport opportunities. Oxford and Cambridge are sweet as mentioned before but there a great cities everywhere and tonnes of good nightlife. Ireland I've been to once and really enjoyed it but I felt like I wouldn't want to spend to long there as it felt like I'd gone back in time a bit!

SCOTLAND.

So much scotland. I went there this summer with 13 buddies from my lacrosse team and we had the sickest time. It was cool to travel around and visit historical places like the wallace monument, Edinburgh Castle, Sterling Castle, the Highlands, etc…

On the other hand, after being tourists during the day, we would fucking rage every night. Edinburgh had some fun old small bars, and even a few nice clubs. We'd usually start of in the grass market (under the shadow of the Edinburgh Castle) and would explore the city's night life from there.

Glasgow had some fun clubs, but it wasn't as fun as Edinburgh.


tl;dr - go to Scotland and have a blast.

if you get a chance liverpool is a sick city. i got to stop there this past summer for a few days. Its a good party town with a ton of music history, mostly Beatles stuff, and it's not that far from london.

Mountains are scattered throughout the island, if you are into hiking this is a great place to go. This particular one is in county Sligo.

was close enough for me to take a bus from Liverpool to London for the Olympics for a day and back to Liverpool again. I didnt have to kill myself to do it either. So they can't be that far away from each other.
