Round 1 to Utah

Sooo im a dude from the midwest (Ohio) and im flying into Salt Lake City this January and im wondering where i should stay for the 4 nights im there, i definitely want to go to the Canyons and not really to sure what else, so Newschoolers,

1) Where should i stay? whats over priced/ underpriced?

2) What mountains should i hit? whats overrated? whats too crowded?

I'm just going to say it. I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me but Little Cotton Wood Canyon, Snowbird and Alta, are way overrated. They have vertical and steep terrain but so....many...god damn people.

Traffic in LCC is just ridiculous on a pow day. I have spent too many mornings waking up @ 6AM and waiting in line for the road to open at 8AM just to have it delayed every hour till 11AM. By the time you get up there, you have a couple of hours to find the stashes which are few and far between due to the sheer amount of powder loves that go there.

I am a fan of Brighton, Rock Gardens off of Milly lift are awesome. It's in a roped off area, "Ski at your own risk" and it scares away a lot of people. Fresh snow for days.

That's just my opinion. Bird and Alta can be fun but like I said soooo many people.

idk my friends have said they liked it, anything out west is going to be unreal since i ski at perfect north, in Indiana, which is a hill to say the most, i just want to go somewhere sweet and that isnt going to be THAT big of a wait

If you can make it up to Powder Mountain, it's definitely worth it. Even if it snows there isn't anyone up there especially on a weekday. Longest line I've ever stood in there was maybe 10 minutes long on opening day. Usually 0-1 minute lines. Check out Powder Country, Paradise and Lightning Ridge. They also have a pretty nice park with the exception of the halfpipe. In January you should 15-20 rails plus 5-7 Jumps at Hidden Lake and then night skiing at Sundown is $12 for 4-9. Fun times. For lodging I would recommend Moose Hollow, they have a shuttle that leaves virtually every hour from the condos. Overall, Powder Mountain in my opinion is the best value of any ski resort in Utah.

^I went to powdermountain and loved it, hill was fairly empty and terrain was so much fun, it was a warm slushy day

Brighton for an all around mountain/pow
PC for park, and if you get really lucky the terrain off Jupiter is amazing for pow

Definitely. Brighton is super fun no matter the conditions--definitely best pow days I've ever had and a pretty fun park. Fairly priced too. PC has the most fun park I've ever skied by far; definitely worth paying for it for even just a day.

Snow basin is a pretty fun mountain too, at least hit up the super nice lodges/gondolas/etc. But definitely pc and brighton. LCC is a bit overrated--the terrain's amazing fasho but its definitely crowded and feels a bit pretentious.

I ride brighton. I like the vibe from there a lot. The people are pretty chill. And its great any day or the winter. There arent very many peeople so it doest get tracked out easily unless its like this year. Example: this year had no fucking snow whatsoever. So the day it got some pow it was packed as shit. And i pack my shit hard when im on the toilette

as someone that has grown up at PN and now lives out in Salt Lake... DO NOT GO TO CANYONS. Really its just a supersized PN (a little of an overexageration) and you won't be experiencing anything too much out of the norm for you. Go to something unique, snowbird, brighton, the powmow, solitude, and if you REALLY wanna ski park do PC. But DO NOT do canyons the whole time (or do so you can leave all the snow to the locals?)

Alta or snowbird. Do not go to Utah without experiencing one or both of these.

Everything else is cool, but nothing compares. Brighton on a pow day is fun, don't go there for park.

It really is a completely different experience. I went to PC my first day in Utah my sophomore year of HS when I was looking at colleges and really wasn't all that blown away. Then I went to Snowbird the second day and had a BLAST and was completely blown away by the mountain. It's just one of those things you have to experience

LCC has longer, steeper runs then anywhere else. Everyone is right it gets skied out quick which is the downfall. Brighton has a lot of mini golf type of runs and doesnt get skied out.

My opinion is alta/bird for pow, PC for park. So id stay in SLC so you have a 30 minute drive to either.
