buy stuff in the spring/summer when shops and companies are trying to make room for the new incoming gear by selling at discounted prices

How do I know that the shop isn't going to have an even bigger sale later in the summer. In other words how do I make sure i get the best deal?

You don't, but the longer you wait for that sale, the lower the chance of you getting what you wanted.

As for saving up, put a percentage of your money you make each cheque away during the summer.
It really doesn't take long to save up for a set of skis

not worth waiting until the summer since a great risk of being sold out. just wait for next years with all that money saved up. I'm eying some 186 frs for next year since they are the only fitting park ski for a person that's 6'4"

Just to be clear, we're not doing a veneer for the 13/14 Filthy, this specific pair is a veneer Filthy Rich with stained elements (the ON3P and the lightning bolts) that you'll see on the 13/14 Filthy Rich graphic, unveiling soon. The full camber park ski will also make its debut in a handful of days, team is out riding them right now.

I have Jeffreys. You like on the EC right? Honestly, id probably go with Jmos for a 1 ski quiver. The Jeffreys are sweet on groomers, crud, and powder. They are very nimble and have no speed limit. However, i found them pretty big for park. From what I hear, Jmos and Jeffreys are very similar. It really depends on how much park you are doing.

Yes I ski mostly park and live on the east coast, but next year will be my senior year of college and i'm moving west as soon as I graduate. I was on a ski team for 5 years in highschool and LOVE the feel of race skis (so I am a very good technical skier), so I'm looking for something that I can carve the shit out of while on groomers, something that I can take in the park and throw cork 7s on occasion, but will also perform in several inches of fresh snow and the trees, hucking cliffs and backcountry jumps. I will be holding on to my line chronics for rails/beater/urban skis.

I'm just under 6' and 165 lbs

Are the jeffreys nimble enough to fulfill my expectations?
Will the jmos hold there own in a couples inches of fresh snow?
I have skied an older version of 186 billy goats, and it was fun on the first day of fresh snow at jackson, but the rest of the time was on groomers and in the trees and it was waaay too much ski for me to handle. so I'm looking for a happy medium. thinking 181 in either of them

im also interested in backcountry and skinning, I just havent had the opportunity to do it since i live in NY :(


Is it a good or bad idea to buy skis this year for mostly next years use since I will be moving and will most likely be living on a very tight budget come graduation? maybe i should just wait until i move and find a demo day

I still think Jmos are more up your alley. Jeffreys can defiantly be thrown around in the park, but Jmos will be a little bit easier to huck around. Like i said, Jeffreys rail on groomers. However, they wont be laying completely over like race skis u mentioned. Thats something to expect with a ski that is fairly wide. Jmos can handle a pretty good amount of snow. My buddy was at hood last year with the old ones and he said even a foot of powder wasnt to much for them if your going a decent speed. Id imagine the new ones would handle it even better because they are wider. Skinning/BC is a different story. Id steer away from both for alpine touring. If you can ante the money, id go for the BG tours and the Jmos. That setup would kill everything.
Conclusion: When you go outwest , if you wont be skiing much park, go for the jeffreys. but if the EC is your main skiing, go with Jmos.

It sounds like you want Jeronimos. They definitely can rail (I used to race as well).

I tour on my Jeffreys. Not the best touring ski but they work well and are lighter than my Caylors. I think I'm going to upgrade to a dynafit / vicik setup before long though.

I have the Viciks for touring, mounted with Atomic Trackers. Heavy setup to say the least, but they charge like none other. However, unlike you, I do not ski park. I raced FIS for 4 years of HS so once i realized i was done racing, I went with the EP Opus for a pure pow ski. I quickly found that while they are super fun, they lack the stability of race-type skis. So, my advice is go with the J-Mo. The Vicik will be too directional (touring/all-mountain) to take into the park and be enjoyable/land switchable. But for a touring set up, the Vicik is bomber.

Would anyone recommend putting guardians on jeffreys? I know they are not a touring ski, but I want to be able to take little tours to get to some fresh stuff with out having to take my skis off. will this work?

Sounds like a solid combo. Jeff's seem like a relatively light ski, only 110ish under-foot.

I don't understand why companies make not having to take off your skis to go from touring mode so ski mode a selling point when you already have to either take off or put on your skins

I've been thinking of putting my Guardians on some Jefferys next year. They're currently on some Billy Goats.

I'm thinking of selling the BGs for the lighter tour set up.
But then I think of the unnecessary redundancy...and so on and so on......

Even though you still have to take off your skis when unskinning, the Guardians release point for touring makes the Guardian much lower and more of a normal binding feeling, as opposed to the higher Duke. Plus the Guardian is nice and lighter.

Yes, but that is not what they advertise it for, they advertise it that you can switch modes without taking off your ski, not that it has a lower stack height. I face palm every time i see a touring binding product video and they say something along the lines of "I love how you have the ability to switch modes without taking your ski off"

it basically seems normal for advertising though.
It is much more interesting to the uneducated buyer that you can switch modes without taking your skis off than "the Tracker 16 has a height of 26mm while the Duke EPF has a height of 26mm"

Some people lock in their heel for downhills on ridgelines but leave their skins on... and other people take off their skins and leave their skis on while doing it.

I've done the first but not the second. It's actually a good feature to have in some situations.

I haven't locked in my heels yet decenting down said ridglelines on my Guardians. I usually feel pretty stable without it.

They look phenomenal but I have chipped away a serious amount of my topsheet, it's not like I treat my FRs bad, I take wicked good care of them. It's just that they are park skis. I would get the veneer on a ski I would keep far away from rails

Pretty much. Also next year the baron is getting updated to the new platform which is awesome for us lighter weight guys, as well salomon is putting out the 13 din gaurdian, but still SOOO heavy.

Duke has a stack height of 36mm and weighs 2550 grams per pair
Guardian has a stack height of 26mm and weighs 2960 grams per pair

My experience with the Tychoon so far is that it could be more dependent on the tune than say a Vicik. My one day on it I could not get it to do what I wanted. I will say that it made long turns at mach looney speeds, and felt very locked in and had the typical stability seen in most ON3P models.

A local shop tech with a strong race background has a pair that he is in love with. I'm sure his tune is immaculate, and not necessarily what they leave the shop with.

I'm not sure how many ON3P sold this year. It would be nice to see others opinion on it.

Last years bases, but the rocker shape is 12/13.

For Tychoon reviews, none on TGR as of yet, been hoping to see some. As its one of the skis I've had a hand in testing, any and all questions, ask them here and I'll answer.
