In most cases they'd say yes, but the chances that they'll treat you like shit and don't put out the night of the dance are exceedingly higher. High School girls can drive you bonkers, be above it.

That being said, I always asked with flowers, and generally had a pretty good time at HS dances. That whole scene was fucking ridiculous though.

Also, in my freshman year some kid planted a bag of flour or some shit on the girl he wanted to ask, then he got the security guard to come down to her class, call her out and search her, finding the bag. He told her she was in huge trouble, took her down to the office to supposedly call the police. Guy was waiting there with flowers, asked her. She, bawling, said yes.

Uncessary? yes. Possibility of tremendous backfire? yes. Balling as fuck? Most goddamn definitely.
