This was on Panasonic US's youtube channel, probably wont last long though, so this embed is from 43rumor's. Looks like Phillip Bloom got to shoot a test body, so I'm sure he'll have a good filmmaker's take on it as soon as the official announcement comes the 17th Sept.

Thoughts?

Waiting for full spec list and some test footy from Phillip.

Looks cool though, I guess kind of what I have been waiting for.

Will wait till the 17th to determine wether I will buy it or not.

Pretty stoked:
-1080p60 @ 72mbit AVCHD (All I-frames)
-Magnesium alloy body
-timecode out
-rear dial rather than d-pad

I can't tell from the photos, but the battery grip is removable right? It's a nice feature for photos/walk around, but the otherwise obnoxiously tiny size of the GH2 is insanely useful when touring.

I'm also hoping the rumors about it using Sony's unbeatable sensors is true.

I really want to know how spanning works in EX. TELE mode, as it's the GH2's strongest feature in my opinion.

A quick google search and not really looking much into it showed a claim of 1200$ for the body and another one was 2200€ for body and 14-140,

I thought they were bundling it with that new 12-35 2.8 X lens?

I'll probably try to get one within the next year and hopefully keep my gh2 as a 2nd body.

how much does an adaptor go for if I want to use my canon lenses. canon is being a little bitch and seems to not be planning anything remotely interesting to compete with nikon sony and lumix, Im about to jump ship, Im sick of this gay ass company who doesnt listen to its clientel.

If you want to actually control the aperture of the lens, I think your options are the metabones or redrock ones, which I'm pretty sure are each around 500 bucks. Theres also some adaptors that have an aperture in the adaptor itself, but they are still a couple hundred bucks and that just doesnt seem like it would work very well.

After working with the GH2, This thing is damn exciting. It fixes a couple key things I didn't like about the GH2.

The big question though - did they fix the damn UI? It's soooo poor and confusing on the GH2, and the manual doesn't even help.... haha.

I never really had a huge problem with it. I guess I'm just used to it. But the addition of a rear wheel is a hint that they may have put some more thought into the UI this time around.

Just get a GH2 after everybody dumps theirs for the GH3 and then continue saving. Thay way you'll be without a camera less time.

All-I means its an I-frame codec. Basically meaning each frame is its own individual image and there is no interpolation or estimation in between frames. Aka AVC-Intra.

And I would assume it is 60p because the GH2 already has a 1080 60i mode so that wouldn't be any sort of news.

I have a few questions for those GH2 owners...

1. If I get a lens such as the Tokina 11-16, what adapter do I use since it doesnt have an aperture ring? I heard something about just a simple foodidox adapter, but I dont think that has an aperture ring.

2. Can someone describe the crop mode to me? So you can crop x2 without quality loss?

3. Lastly, is this camera sufficient enough for timelapse? I have a t3i right now, and is it up to par with that for still photography?

Sounds like THE new SLR so far. Especially for video. I don't know how it will do as far as stills go, but for video this just sounds uber sick.

Was wondering if any of you could answer this. I dont know much about this camera, doing a little reading and see that they have a sensor with a 2x crop factor instead of the 1.6 that the canons have. Basically my question is in regards to all of the old pentax, and olypmus glass I have, can they be adapted to fit the gh3? Also what about canon glass?

All your old pentax and olympus glass can be adapted to work.

Only canon FD glass can be adapted well, not any of the EOS glass.

2. Its called Ex. Tele Conv. What it does is sample a part of the sensor that is the physical size of the video being recorded. (1920x1080 or 1280x720). This means that the crop factor is increased from around 2x to around 4x, effectively doubling the focal length of your lens. This also means that the sensor is not downsampling, so there is no moire, aliasing, or rolling shutter artifacts.

3. It is not as good for still photography or timelapses as a canon dslr, mostly because the buffer time on long exposures is pretty bad, as is the noise handling. BUT, there are hacks that allow it to record 1fps avchd (actually maybe just mjpeg), which is a super convenient way to record timelapses, although it doesnt allow the resolution or quality of using RAW still images.

Its either 2x or 4x.

And that is a good plan, I plan on doing the same eventually, since I already have a couple nikon lenses and a nikon film body.

Looks like b&h has it listed for $1300. Not avaliable yet, but still pretty stoked. I will probably wait until some reviews and until some NSers get it before i buy it

Exactly. More detail, less color banding, less blocky compression artifacts, holds up better when color grading.
