*on non-diet soda...they should ban both since diet is equally as horrible for you. i still think if fat people want to stay fat they should be able to make that choice themselves.
the city of ottawa is trying to pass something similar but instead they are only banning soda in city owned buildings. banning it in everything but grocery stores is ballsy as fuck
This goes to illustrate the growing hold the us government seems bent on attaining as far as civil liberties. I guess we can all sit back and watch as those we elect set the libertarian ideals ablaze.
Just to be clear OP before I begin, I typically enjoy your posts but this response is troublesome.
You do understand that peoples perpensity to gain weight whether or not it is by means of soda is to some degree out of their hands. I am not saying that they cannot control weight through proper exercise and nutrition, but what I am saying is whether or not people are fat is not directly correlated to soda or perceived poor dietary choices. The typical westernized diet consisting of 60-70% processed carbohydrate is to blame and whether or not your body is designed to metabolize those carbohydrates. People who are obese in this country are simply products of their environment coupled with a poor metabolic type for today's diet. The human body is not designed to deal with overly processed products however we currently allow labels of overly processed foods to tell us what is healthy. That is like going to a used car lot and asking the salesman which car would be best for me. First he doesnt know anything about me and second he is going to choose what is in his best interest and then sell it accordingly. Labels on food are the same. 100 calorie pack sounds great until you realize that the only thing you are eating is super refined processed carbohydrate. The people who are eating that 100 cal pack are people who believe they have a reason to watch calories. If consuming a westernized diet and are overweight chances are they have some variation of a fast oxidizing metobolic type. This means they are very efficient at storing carbohydrate for later use. 50000 years ago this would be very effective. However today not so much. Evolution has not kept up with dietary changes and energy requirements. Bottom line, a skinny person can believe they are making good nutritional choices but in actuality are only thin due to the type of metabolic system that they were born with in relation to the typical westernized diet. It is easy to point a finger when you are not educated. A person who is obese maybe making a concerted effort to eat healthy however labels cannot accurately portray whether or not a particular food will have a negative impact on an individual if it has been processed. If it has a negative impact, you think you did the right thing but you gain weight. the more you gain the less you care, the more you become frustrated, and the less active you become.
Sparks-dont blame people, blame education of proper diet. Processed food is slop for the masses and until it becomes common knowledge that labels only have the product sales interest in mind people and do not clearly state who should eat it or who will be negatively impacted by eating it, people will be fat.
this is fucking ridiculous, ppl should make the choices themselves, more government getting into our lives, WEEE...on another note no more of theseeeee
Not when your man tittie can easily act as a giant mitt, and you can stash three McDoubles under each one.
I really think they're underestimating the amount of storage space the average fattie really has, as well as their ability to multitask when it comes to food.
hmmm thats interesting. do people know if they use contriception its going to prevent pregnancy? yes
do people know that drinking a glass of not from concentrate natural orange juice is one of the worst things a person with a fast oxidizing protien type metabolism can do? no
did you know that if your body breaks down carbohydrates slowly enough you can use them as fuel as that is all food is. And if you break it down to quickly your body can only store it as fat?
Did you know that more than 70 percent of people on food assistance that live in food deserts in this country are overweight?
Did you know that of those people who live in food deserts access to fresh fruit and vegitables is almost not existant?
Did you know that high fructose corn syrup can not be processed like natural sugar in the body and is immediately converted to fat if not burned off from high metabolism?
Society doesnt know these things and if people didnt care labels would not be selling you on why there food is "healthy' If people didnt care they wouldnt have to. Americans have been moving away from soda for the past 5-10 years and replacing it with energy, sports, juice drinks which for all intents and purposes are equally as bad but if you read the labels of sports and juice drinks you will be misled.
i think he's trying to make a different point. sure everyone knows that eating hamburgers and french fries every meal is an unhealthy way to live, but most of americans are taught that the ideal model of eating is to follow the "food pyramid" or whatever they call it these days. foods are labeled as healthy or unhealthy based on calorie counts and fat content (which are not really the problem), and disregard all the processed bullshit that goes into them. we're told to eat a carb heavy diet consisting of whole grains (largely processed) and that we need to have a certain amount of dairy each day to be "healthy." some of the government recommendations come from the lobbyists who provide them money and not necessarily based on research. i think he was just trying to say there is a lot of misinformation that is taught about diet that the average person assumes to be correct, and these people don't fully understand what is going on so their efforts at trying to be healthy is not very effective
Thank fuck. Nobody tends to have a problem with telling others how disgusting and lazy Americans are these days, but as soon as steps are taken towards doing something about everyone complains. You have to be a fucking fool to be drinking soda these days! The concentration of high-fructose corn syrup is said to Put you at higher risk of heart disease than being a cigarette smoker
who gives a shit? if ppl want to drink it, let them. Why should the government tell them what they can and cant drink or the portion size of it? thats fuckign ridiculous, go ahead drink smoke as much as u all want, our world is overpopulated anyways, population control motherfuckers
you just have to be uneducated not a fool. also its anything with hfcs and other sugars not just soda even skim milk. water water water, you want energy, coffee or tea
For everybody thinking that they are only hurting themselves, you are thinking very narrowly. Think about how much stress they are putting on our health care system. Studies are showing that more than 20.6 percent of all national health expenditures is spent on managing obesity and the related health problems, that add up to $190 billion each year.
