Nikon D600 announced

i'd take a d700 any day, except i bet this thing will be awesome for video. and if you need the smaller size / weight

uncompressed HDMI out is sweet.
FF sensor, ISO performance looked pretty damn good. only goes up to 6400 though.

I was thinking it'd come in a bit cheaper than it did. hmm. Won't switch to it regardless, too much of a hassle to switch all my lenses, flashes, triggers, grips, batteries, etc

I'd get this for video in a second if I had a stock of vintage nikon glass...

You can get one now for about the same price as a 5DII? Shit... That's good news to those who welcome a serious drop in price for FF video...

Looks like a pretty decent camera, I'll stick to getting d800 though. Performance wise I think the camera is going to be awesome, what I don't like is the square viewfinder piece, modes dial with all the different scene selectors, 1/4000 fastest shutter speed, and a few other things but those are the main ones

Yeah, for a 'bargain' FF camera it's actually pretty kick-ass seeming.

60fps@720p is pretty damn awesome...

1/4000 is manageable for sure... It's not really made for sports anyways. 5.5fps is decent though, considering.

the resolution is plenty. the d800 is just retarded at 36mp... Nobody needs to blow up something and put it on the side of a building... and if they do, they're using a MF studio cam with twice that resolution.

I'm also excited that this will bring down the cost of the 5DII sooner and faster. If one can snag one of those for around 1000 anytime soon, I know what near-future purchase I'm going to be making..

I looked at the test shots today posted by Nikon France on Flickr - not sure what glass they were using as I was too lazy to check the exif. Noise looked good, resolution, not so much, and the images had a j'ne sais quoi about them that just made them look like shit. Not sure if it was the sensor or compression, but I was far from impressed. I was actually considering this camera, but I won't buy it now, unless I get ahold of some good RAW files shot with good glass to play with.

though it's more expensive I would honestly recommend going for d800 for the feeling alone of having a more advanced camera if that makes sense. D600 seems a lot like a d7000 body with an fx sensor, a little too consumer based for my liking, then again that's who it's directly aimed at so it makes sense for it to be that way.

It's easier for me to say this too cause I don't have to pay retail on camera equipment (the benefits of working at a camera store)

But isn't your cost on the 800 only like 150-200 off? I thought wholesale was 2800$.

anyways, I probably wouldn't be getting this camera anyways, I just like options, as well as seeing Nikon do well. It's not the camera I thought it would be.

cost is about 400-500 less on d800, but nikon gives me an even better deal than that

I can't afford an 800 at the moment, but I really would like to pick one up.

You should see the deals that pentax dealers give...

From what I understand, they're better than Nikon from what I've heard from folks behind the desk at my local camera store...

I guess they're dropping Nikon and Canon gear from the shop purely because they can get such awesome deals on sony and pentax gear. (that and they still have a massive stock in still BNIB Minolta lenses and old gear that still works on sony cameras, which is rad)

not so sure about pentax, but the downside I see to pentax is the limited amount options you have available to you compared to nikon and canon. just my opinion though, my shop carries pentax too.

This is how I feel with pretty much every camera coming out. I just love it that it drives the prices down. I will never buy one of the newest camera's, simply because they aren't worth as much as they cost. 3K for a camera? Ridiculous. My 500$ 5D is absolutely kick-ass and just as good a job as a 3k/2.5k camera in 90$ of the situations.
