I would love to see more long-form content on NS.
I think the biggest issue with developing stronger editorial content would be the current state of NS's homepage. As someone who has contributed to NS, it's a bit of a letdown to put forth a shitload of effort for a piece that is buried behind a kid's edit on the front page.
I think to truly develop a stronger editorial side, NS would have to feature actual copy more prominently. Think about it: with actual print, a piece carries weight throughout the whole month considering there is only one issue available. On NS, it would get traffic, what, for three days before it's buried in the depths of the site?
Then, there becomes an issue of assembling content. Who would contribute? how would you ensure the content is fresh? Most of the individuals you would tap would most likely already have ins with Powder, Freeskier, TGR, etc. Can they logistically be swayed to make space for NS? (i mean, i would, so hire me).
I just get the feeling that with the current state of ski media, it's very difficult to really create something new, fresh, and attentive. We are bombarded with edits, stories, and photos from every direction possible.
It would require a lot of work and dedication from the contributors, and that would have to be matched by NS in a both monetary and exposure-driven sense.
