Need your opinion on english courses

Well, I speak french and I live in Quebec. But I need to get better in english. So I was looking to take some english courses, I did some research and it's not cheap. 3600$ and it will take me 5 or 6 months to finish the courses. My mom his paying, but I'm thinking about going in BC, revelstoke or whitewater or red, whatever, somewhere where the people don't speak french.

What should I do ? Go out west and ski and learn english or stay in quebec and learn it here. Which one his better ?

Did you guys take some courses to learn a new language or did you move somewhere to learn it ?

Especially considering your apparent existing skills from this post, I'd highly recommend going somewhere you can practice it daily. You learn 1000x faster when you are forced to speak a language with those who are native to it. Your English, and more importantly your accent will develop rapidly.

Notghood, I can't do both, my mom is paying for the course but I don't want her to pay for the course if it's better for me to go somewhere and learn it there. Plus 3600$ is not cheap.

Dustin. thank you, but the problem is that im better at writing then speaking. So like you said, if I'm forced to speak english I'll learn it way faster then speaking 4 hour a week in english. +k

Just go and ski, if you're in a town where everyone speaks english, and you're around people speaking english all day you'll pick it up in no time. No point in wasting $3600

Yea that's what I was thinking, now I have to conceive/ convince (not sure how to spell it) my mom to give me some money to go out west.

fucking french canadians so dam smug....the only place in north america they don't speak english. You have your life to ski man....learn the english it will help you 10000x in the long run.

the best way to become fluent in a language is full immersion, especially when you have some preexisting skills. go out to BC and you'll be fluent in english in no time. you probably won't even have to take a course

Thanks guys, I Going to spend a season at REvelstoke or whitewater or any mountain that will reply my application that I'll send this weekend. My mom is giving me some money to help me, like 3k.

If someone is in revelstoke, nelson or rossland, have an extra room or know someone who need a roommate let me know.

yeah my friend is trying to learn spanish so he went to casta rica for a month and he said he learned more spanish in the month than he did in the 4 years that hes been taking it in school

you'll find a lot of other french people doing the same as you out there. it will be easier to make friends with them, but you're not helping yourself. make friends with the anglos.

your English is pretty decent judging by your post, you should probably just move west and do an immersion type thing

What are you looking at getting out of this?

It looks like you have a pretty good grasp on writing judging from your post, but if you want to work on your fluency in conversation, immersion would be a your option. When you immerse yourself, you are able to pick up on slang, accents, and abbreviations that you usually don't learn in a classroom. If your mom is helping you pay for expenses, I would recommend moving out west for a little while. You'll have a good time skiing and probably be able to speak more fluently than compared to taking a class.

If you are looking at taking more of a career approach to this and see yourself applying writing in a job setting, definitely take the classes. They can teach you sentence structure, grammar laws, and writing techniques that you will only gain from taking classes. These might be a little dry in content but it will come in handy if you ever need to write reports or send large emails.
