Best motherboard and graphics card for gaming...

Okay so as an EE I should probably know this, but I dont stay current on the best gaming stuff, just what we need to run our software smoothly.
As the computer world changes so often, I want to know the current best but not most expensive MB and graphics/video card on the market. I know I can drop like $2k for a MB but I am not doing that.
Is the LGA 1155 the best socket assuming an i7 is the best processor for gaming (I know it is for my work applications)

Maybe this belongs in Media and Arts but oh well.

GPU: 660ti 2gb 256bit card. get an "overclocking" version with better fans (better cooling)
CPU/Mobo: I agree, one of the 1155 socket intel processors. i7 3770k (3.5gHz quad core). If you wanted, maybe a 2011 socket i7 3930k 3.2gHz six core ;). I like gigabyte as a brand in general, other than that I have no real suggestions. Get something without an onboard GPU to save some cash and space.

Dolan got smart. Wut. But i'd say a 67-70 is a great graphics card. Just get a nice asus. The motherboard depends on the rest of your parts though.

On board gpu's are typically not the same level of quality, speed and performance compared to simple gpu' that you hook up to the motherboard, the nvidia GeForce GTX 660 TI is honestly a great CPU for the price, it's fast ad can handle more demanding games with ease, hope this helped

Thanks for the help all. It seems I use a lot of the same or close to the same for what I have built at work. I also like gigabit and Asus for MB and GeForce for GPU. I think an onboard wont handle what I want as it cant keep up our software.

definitely no onboard. Like i said, the 660ti. It will murder anything and everything you throw at it
