i think i heard of the theo van gogh murder, at least i have something like this in my mind.

obviously, you want people to contribute to your society. but its not so easy. what is with fugitives? not all of them will learn the language and get a job, but is that reason enough to send them back into torture/starvation/death?

do you sent a guy home that becomes a criminal? so why dont you send locals out who became criminals?

i know what you mean and i am all for it somehow, i just know there is NO (practically feasible, humanitarian, non-facist) definition of people that should come in here and of people that should be sent back.

on the other hand, what is it with our middle european society/culture that is so important that it cant and shouldnt change?

think about the "americanisation" which i am sure is/was also taking place in the netherlands. like we watch american shows, movies, we know more about american politics than about their french, spain or british counterparts. every single trend in the US spills over to us. i see "our culture" as something so widespread and dynamic that i dont really fear a change, because change is inevitable anyway.

hell, some muslim hospitality and their focus on the family wouldnt kill us. "their" food is also delicious as fuck imo, they dont treat their women as bad (that is also a media overreaction) as you would think. the next generation, those people that are as old as i am, those people that were born here and might have never been in turkey and ex-jugoslavia, they all speak the language and are integrated pretty well.

its sociologically proven that various "cultures" act differently when they immigrate to somewhere else. westerners normally learn the language pretty fast and normally, their children arent recognized for being foreigners. people from the middle east "need" a generation more and they will have a stronger community of fellow countrymen that they keep around themselves. people from east asia conservate their culture the longest, they build things like chinatown or little manila or whatnot and avoid other interactions. i cant blame them for doing cultural stuff and not shrugging off what they are just because they live in another country.

i am totally with you on the language thing though, because i just think that you and your kids will have problems all your life if you dont speak the language. its just impractical for a country, to have people that dont understand/can read street signs, official documents and all that. that should really be a prerequisite. but anything else: do what you want as long as you dont hurt anyone.

The immigration/fugitive procedure could be much improved, I've been there and seen it with my own eyes. You get rewarded for doing nothing, whilst the people who genuinely try to learn the language and culture will get way less.

The deaths of the officials in Libya was likely not an issue of freedom of speech. When Bin Laden was killed, his second in command took over, and a new guy became second in command. The new guy was named Abu Al Libi, called the "Libyan Lion". He was killed by the US in June of this year - after his death, some Libyan militants undertook some vandalism of the US Consulate, set some things on fire, etc etc etc.

Flash forward to this week. Every year on 9/11 Al Qaeda does some sort of propaganda thing for its followers, and this year they did a 40 minute video celebrating Al Libi as a martyr slain by the infidels etc. etc. etc. Unsurprisingly, Libyan militants again went after the US consulate shortly thereafter - this time they killed people.

So don't chalk the whole thing up to some dumb youtube video.

While Egyptian protesters battled security forces outside the US embassy on Thursday morning, another standoff was taking place -- this time in cyberspace.

The Muslim Brotherhood's official English-language Twitter account @Ikwanweb reposted a message from the group's deputy head, Khairat El-Shater, saying he was "relieved none of @USembassycairo staff was hurt" and expressing his hope that US-Egypt relations could weather the events.

This reconciliatory tweet, however, was posted while the Brotherhood's Arabic-language Twitter account and its official website were both praising the protests -- staged against a US-made film judged defamatory towards Islam -- and calling for a million man march on Friday.

One Arabic language article on the Brotherhood's site sported the headline 'Egyptians rise to defend the Prophet'.

Noting the contradiction, the US Embassy in Cairo tweeted a tart response from its own account: "Thanks. By the way, have you checked out your own Arabic feeds? I hope you know we read those too."

Seemingly stung, the Brotherhood replied some 20 minutes later, saying "we understand you're under a lot of stress, but it will be more helpful if you point out exactly the Arabic feed of concern."

They were just three tweets, but they provided a snapshot into the strains US-Egypt relations are under this week.

It took President Mohamed Morsi more than two days to officially condemn the breaching of Cairo's US Embassy grounds by angry protesters.

US President Barack Obama on Wednesday said that Egypt is neither an ally nor an enemy of the United States.

"I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy," Obama said in excerpts of an interview with Telemundo aired by MSNBC.

"And if they take actions that indicate they're not taking those responsibilities, as all other countries do where we have embassies, I think that's going to be a real big problem."

I look at it this way:

if they insulted "our god" and they do, would we go fucking ape shit and kill people and get hundreds of people injured in protest, send death threats to a shitty filmmaker? we dont, they insult america constantly.

Now we are not allowed talking freely about their culture and their god? why are they allowed to do this about the Jews, and why is it ok for them to attack judaism constantly and burn their churches...

America has done its fair share of racial discrimination and horrible acts like this for example with black people. But the last 50 years have been so fast in social evolution, its time for them to stop acting like fucking sand people and just kill when mad. Im not saying they all kill when mad, but in relation to north america, you would never see outrage like this for anything.
