Welding

Im currently a welding student at a local college and the instructor told us that it would be a good idea to get some practice at it outside of class. I have an old welder out in the shop that we use for fabricating stuff and repairing small stuff, but ive never been a good one for coming up with little projects, which is why im asking you guys. any good small projects that you could suggest? im not gonna build a rail because its too simple, i need something that requires a decent amount of welding

I helped make this last summer. (By helped, I mean, I did the majority of the welding).

those things look terribly fun and are somewhat more useable in everyday life than that previous example ....

^^this is a very boss example of how it can turn out !

all you need are 2 donor bikes, some small scrap metal, welder, angle grinder or something to cut and prep the pipes with and maybe some replacement bike parts, depending on what you can salvage :)

The other bike that was posted, the seat looked about 10ft high.

The one that I_Am_Mod posted is more practical on a day to day basis.

the steering thing from another bike ... thats why you need 2 donors to make 1 swingbike ....

When I was in HS some kids in my welding class made mini choppers. They built the frames from scratch, used a lawnmower motor and a golf cart tire for the rear tire. So fun, but so dangerous.

Buy a bearing and then build a jib arm... also known as camera crane.. i used a heavy bearing from an office chair and built one back in the day... if i can find a picture of it i'll post it up

build a workbench with shelves or a toolbox for your shop. something you're going to use everyday and be proud that you built it.

steel tubing. or build a shifter kart with a dirtbike engine. had one with a 125 that went around 100, 0-60 around 5 sec. then built one with a 250 that went around 125, 0-60 under 4 sec. and they fit in the back of my suv for maximum stealthness for post country road ripping getaways

It's true...  But most of my projects aren't really that fun.  I'd totally vote for the swingbike though, that seems like a blast to just dip around on haha
