The 9/11 thread

As tragic as it was back then 5k? people died? but now here in the trump era we got how many Coronavirus deaths from this pandemic ?

I was in my 6th week of Army basic training. The commander filed us all into a room sat us down and turned on the tv to the live coverage . After the initial moment of everyone freaking out we got to line up at the payphones to call home. I was panicking as I have a sister who is a flight attendant. Thankfully she wasnt on a plane that morning. We were in a wierd confused fog for the rest of the day while wondering what our future was going to be like.

We had to pack our bags even though we didnt go anywhere.

Its hard for people to wrap their heads around people dying from illness. It happens quietly, out of sight, and over a period of time. When the towers fell it was probably the most clear and impactful moment so far this century. Everyone knew that the world was going to be a different place from that moment on.

Agreed. I was a junior in high school on 9/11, it’s hard to quantify the fear that gripped this country on that morning and in the following time period. Fear, profound sadness at the magnitude of destruction and loss. Prior to 9/11 you would be hard pressed to find really anyone in the civilian population that could identify any Middle Eastern countries on a map, accurately identify the religious and ethnic layout of that region or describe with any semblance of accuracy what the history of that country was as it pertained to US foreign policy. In a lot of ways we all woke TF up real quick on that day.
