i was in the car going to my first day of preschool so i personally dont really remember anything about it but my mom says we kinda just turned around and drove back home when she heard the news on the radio

Although I completely agree with the message of this picture, the #s are WAY off. The Iraqi civilian casualties caused by us are around 115,000.

I didn't want to get involved in this, but please stop. Some of the nicest and most genuine people I have met come from Afghanistan. Just because they live somewhere else, and believe something different does change the fact that they are people just like you and I.

I was only 8 and disconnected from 9/11 when it happened, but what I learn over and over each year is that the cycle of hatred always seems to continue.

I understand you are from Canada. I get it. If this post insults or angers anyone I am genuinely apologetic, but it it ignorant people like you that make me dread this day. Although it is sad, and unfortunate that people died, and maybe some NS'ers relatives passed that day, but as a country, we new to focus on the fact that we were ATTACKED, and calm the arrogance of "feeling sorry for those lost that day". Some were great people, but the fact of the matter is, it is a bigger deal that our country was under siege that day. Peace

When i first came to this thread i was saddened by the event that happened 11 years ago to this day. Yet I am still down about what happened this day, I now feel more whole as an American citizen after watching some videos. It surprised me that the nation that is known as lazy or fat, came together and helped out one another by risking their lives. This really amazed me as i never fully knew the true civilian stories behind it all. Thank you to all the people that risked their lives that day and my heart goes out to all the people that lost some one close to them. Rest in peace all that were lost that day.

As I stated earlier, Mr. Tough-guy-high-school-senior, this is a thread to remember 9/11 and those who were lost, not to state your oh so brilliant opinions on the war and/or deaths in the Middle East. So, once again, kindly get the fuck out.

As for your previous post, and saying you were "spewing bullshit," I never said you were lying, per se, just couldn't adequately describe what was essentially a slow stream of soft stool pouring from your fingers/mouth as you attempted to make an argument that didn't need to be brought up in A THREAD TO REMEMBER AN INCREDIBLE TRAGEDY. Okay, I'll play along. My grandparents neighbor and one of my favorite teachers lost her husband in one of the towers. Her daughter was so traumatized that she slept in her mother's room for two months after. I cannot imagine the amount of pain they went through. I think about it whenever I see her or talk to her. It's the first thing 9/11 related that comes to my mind. I can never relate to them, but it's a tragedy.

Say whatever you want, but I understand this more so than you probably do, and have formed opinions based on both experience and logic. Or as you would say, "No, fuck you!"

I find it pretty bad that we cry over this for one day, but completely disregard what we have done as a country, which is much worse. Humans have died. Not Americans, not Iraqis or Afghans, but humans, and we should mourn the lives of everyone who died and has died due to this. I paid my respects. I don't need to do it here. I saw Amadeus making good points ad getting shit on, so I agreed with him.

And just when I thought this couldn't get funnier, Ar6rider tells me to grow up. lol.

i was in grade 5, and as my recollection goes, i heard about it, my teacher was in tears, and all i thought was "oh, how soon is recess?" i was just too young to comprehend, i'd never even heard of the world trade centres. over the years, it obviously sunk in that this was an extremely traumatic and important event across the world, and i can truly look back with a sense of the absolute horror of such an ordinary day in such a seemingly safe place being torn so completely apart and ruining so many lives.

but, for me, as a canadian looking at the tragedy largely in retrospect, it only serves to put into perspective the tragedies that happen in the world every year and continue to happen. 9/11 was a wake-up call because it was in the middle of new york city and caused a completely atrocious amount of death in a place we thought was completely safe. the list on the first page has to put this into perspective. all those names were people, with family, friends and whole lives. but we hear on the news almost every week about how 3000 civilians have lost their lives in a war torn 3rd world country and think little. it's similar to how hurricane katrina was a national tragedy when 300x as many people died in the haitian earthquake and all it sparked was a haphazard relief fund.

so while i can't understate the tragedy and horror of the 9/11 attacks, and the fact that so many innocent lives were cut short that day, it largely serves to give me perspective on the countless tragedies that happen almost every year that we barely even consider, and in the end just makes me sad.

this. As for me I was in grade 5, math class in ottawa. I remember our principal coming in and taking our teacher out to the hall and talking to her for a few minutes. She came back in and announced it to the class. I had no idea what the WTC was at the time but she said school was being cut short and parents were being called. Many of the parents worked in government positions or downtown and after the first plane hit, they began to evacuate downtown and all the government buildings as a precaution since no one knew what was happening.

A necessary evil act of war that has been widely accepted to have SAVED countless lives (some estimates put the number at 5 million)

And you can bet your ass Japan honors those people even though it happened nearly 70 years ago

It's honestly sad the amount of children in this thread that seem to have no respect for the lives lost on Sept 1st..instead they feel it necessary to relate this tragedy to historic events like somehow these innocent civilians had it coming to them

9/11 is a special day.  It's for mourning, just like fucking Pearl Harbor day but for civilians.  Got a problem with that?  Keep it to yourself or just come up with "innocent victims of war day"...  Because I think if you'd stop crying about how terrible the US is from your warped young little mind and opened a history book you'd see we are but a drop in the ocean of the people-killers roaming the planet.  Does that make it ok?  Nope.  But we did it on accident- collateral damage.  They did it on purpose- and had they succeeded in the timing of the attack, it would have been much worse.  Keep that in mind the next time you cry injustice, because you sound like a spoiled little fuck when you spout off like that.

I was 20 when it happened, in the midst of a company meeting on our back dock at work. We all were shocked and awed but pressed on with our work day to later go home and get all the details.

Two interesting things that happened shortly thereafter and really set in the severity of the situation.

All planes grounded for the following day. It's just something we seem to take in stride these days as commercial aviation is such a big part of society, but seeing a truly clear sky devoid of jet trails is something that will stick in my memory forever. It's not something you see often where I live and it was truly surreal, kinda like looking up in the sky a hundred years ago or something.

Also I visited the beach shortly after the attack. Normal good time down in wildwood, cruised down the road to visit the park and lighthouse at cape may. Climbed the lighthouse like we usually did while down there for a little exercise and a good view. Upon reaching the top I was blown away by the naval presence amassed in the delaware bay, there must have been a dozen ships including what looked like destroyers and battleships and aircraft carriers. Really hit home how much the hornets nest had been stirred up, yet somehow made me feel very safe at the same time.

Don't worry, they wouldn't bring back the draft, especially after Vietnam. It would be a stupid move and be rejected more than ever. It would only cause riots and protests. So don't worry.

Also I think that everyone sees war differently and that if you have a view point that disrespects service members that is fine. Just as you have a view point that they shouldn't be disrespected. Calm down guys.

and we chased them down over the pacific and laid the whoop ass. Just like we sent the baddest of the baddasses over to fucked up Osama.
Then we sent over another american badass Dougie Mac and a few billion $$$$ to help themselves to rebuild and formulate a constitution that their still rollin with today. It empowered Japanese women and change their society.
Personally I've never met a lot of Japanese people that hate america, but I've never been there and I doubt the ones that do come visit.
As to crackhead conspicy child and servin the uncle and your country
not a lot of gigs out there give you 3 hots and a cot, a chance to explore yurp, ski the alps,bone Fraulein's in der poopenhausen and learn valuable life ending skills.
