I'd have to say I completely disagree. If you know anything about the totalitarian ethics of the former USSR, you'd know that the people there were repressed in more ways than just the general 'having to live under a communist regime' thing...
Case in point - You know all these car crashes that have been happening in all of these videos? How many people under soviet times actually owned cars.. much less cars that worked well enough to drive over 50 on the highway to begin with...
There's a lot of newbie drivers in russia. Add that along to some of the gnarliest roads on the planet, crazy ugly road conditions to go along with them, and a police force that's still pretty inconsistant when it comes to enforcement (and is easily bribed), and you have this wilco tango foxtrot shit that's now happening.
And yeah, you're right, Russia perhaps has always been an Alcohol infused shitshow... Alcoholism is practically part of their culture (I mean, I think Vladamir the Great or something even told Islam to fuck off as the state religion, just because alcohol was not allowed...), but at the same time, do you think the ridiculous shit that happens today because of it would be as tolerated back then? They don't have Gulags now... so one could definitely say the penalties for doing something completely batshit while drunk is probably a little bit more lax now.
Add all that to the soviet influenced 'ingenuity in times of not having a spare wheel', and you have this kind of shit.
