Binding for Park? Jester pro? +++K

heres the low down. im riding the new 2013 chronics this year. YAYY! and i need a binding for my new skis. size 171cm. im 5'9" 160lbs. i want a light weight binding that will be good for park. money isnt really that big of a turn away. I will be skiing 80% park with 70% rails and small jumps. Any ideas? right now im looking at the 2012 jester pros? give me your thoughts!

Youre fairly light, the Jester would be good but i think a little unneccisary for your weight, i would recommend the Marker Griffons, they are a little lighter and have a  better DIN range for you, thats really the only difference between the two, but you would be fine with either way

You dont need a 16 din binding in the park.
Options other than marker girffon:

Rossi Axial 12
Salomon 12 driver
Tyrolia peak 13

At your weight you don't need more than a 12 din.

But Tom Wallisch has them so you should get them. But seriously you don't need a binding with a 16 din. You'll be fine with the suggestions above

There is a little misinformation here jester pros that the op is talking about are 18 din...a little overkill for you. The 16 din marker jester (non pro version) in my opinion would not be overkill. Sure you probably have no need to ever be at 16 but the lower end should be alright. I know the downside of the griffon is that there is a lot of plastic but I wouldn't rule them out either for several reasons. 1, they are cheaper 2 they have more of your idea din range. That is just my 2 cents

thanks guys! +k to all. ill look into the griffon or maybe the sth. i was just wondering cause i have a deal on jester pros for 180, but hey if griffons work just as good for me for only around 100.... boom!

i have the sth 12s and they are a great ski binding. but for you id recommend the marker griffin binding or the salomon sth 16s. the sth 16s are VERY durable bindings with the full metal housing so they would be a little bit heavier but they would last twice as long. The marker griffin is mostly plastic but still a great binding! hope i helped!

jester pro might indeed be a bit overkill...
i'm about the same height/weight as you and i've had jesters on my designated park ski last year and i was very happy about em.(also have em on my pow ski)

the jester pro will probably be a little overkill and personally i think you're better off saving the money...

other options would be the STH14 or 16 with driver toe (or the same models, ie. atomic ffg16)

4frnt/ tyrollia deadbolt/peak 15

or especially for park riding, the look pivot 14

personally i've also been really happy about my older look PX bindings but other NSers seem to dislike them.....
personally they've served me well for almost 4 years, only when snapping in i sometimes need to pull the heelpiece up .... and they're relatively cheap when compared to similar bindings

Wrong.

The STH 16 is a durable binding, but DOES NOT HAVE a full metal housing.

im riding 2013 Line Chronics 178... im hitter larger jumps and i'm going to be fine with the griffons... i only clock in at like a 9 DIN so.

good response. i like jester pros for powder and back country especially cause im a little heavier at 180, but again, I like what you said about not having the din actually at 18. for people who arent ski techs, the reason they make an 18 din binding isnt so you ride at a din 18. i work with a ski tech and people have the completely wrong idea. the proper way to tension a binding would be near the middle high end. thats where you will get the best performance. if you take a 12 din binding, normally you would be riding the din at a safe 7-10ish. if you crank down the din, the binding will not perform right and either make you pop out to much or lock up the tensioner when you will need to pop out. this being said, the safest spot to ride the jester pro is at about a din 14. This is why you should never tension your own bindings unless youre a tech. this is coming from a ski tech who also worked for marker.

correct but there is however a Steel version of the STH16 that's been taken back into production .....

There is.  It's identical to the old 916s but you won't see too many of the kids here looking at them because they weigh 18lbs and cost $450.
