Where has your filming taken you or where do you want it to take you?

along with photography too!

got me into wedding filming. its a ton of fun, just got home from two back to back. was hellishly busy but worth the $500+ im getting!

It has made me hate 98% of the movies I watch. I also feel like an ass for owning so many expensive things. The fact that for every shot I take, I spend at least 5 minutes sitting in front of a computer tweaking it gives me less and less incentive to pick up my camera each time. Doing it professionally has only made me feel unfulfilled and angry.

On the other hand, there's bouts of artistic euphoria. So there's that...

What a cool idea for a thread.

Since I was around 12-13 I have been filming, it started off with a simple sony point and shoot that shot 4:3 at 240p, it was horrible but I still had fun with my friends making videos. I started with making a few ski edits and the ocasional trampoline video.

My edits progressively got better once I upgraded to a HD sony handycam and learned how to make my videos more pleasant to the human eye, I was still all about run, point and shoot it was extremely sub par:


As a young film maker I looked up to the edit "I feel ghood" by Andreas Olofsson. It was my inspiration to make an edit as good as this one, the vibe, the colours, everything made me want to make something as dope.

To this day it is still one of my favorite edits.

In the 4 years I have accomplished so much in my eyes, I have gone from shooting close friends to some of the top free skiers in the industry. I have made tonnes of contacts and made lots of friends while doing it. Its been an amazing experience, although I havent traveled much growing up in Whistler has helped an enormous amount.

I am stoked just thinking about the next few years in the ski world, im not sure where I want it to take me as of now seeing as I am still in Highschool I am going to continue to focus my eyes on the Ski industry. In the future years I may plan on doing short films, time will tell! I am so grateful for everyone who has helped me make it this far. Without my mother, other videographers, Newschoolers & anyone else who has helped I dont think I would still be filming.

I'm relatively new to filming, but it has given me something new to put energy into, made me able to do more creative things (taken all of my money hahaha). I was always appreciative of people who filmed, and it blew my mind the things they could do, but I was more into getting filmed. One of the first edits that made me want to get into it myself was this:

It was made by some people I know in Calgary, and I watched it like five times the first day it came out. Then the idea of filming entered my mind. This previous summer I decided to save up for a 60D and give it a shot. I had a little bit of money (800$) saved up, when my mom's friend, a very good photographer said she was selling her 5D mkII. She sold it to me with an 85mm lens for 800$ (crazy, I know, but they're pretty wealthy). The only problem was, I didn't have any idea what I was doing. I knew what I wanted my shots to look like, but had zero understanding of focal length, exposure etc... So my first edit came out looking like this:



After I posted an edit I thought was good, and having fellow NS'er and awesome filmer blondie rip it apart, it motivated me, I studied everything I could learn about, Filmed whatever I could, learned how to make a basic edit, and I feel like in four months I have progressed a lot. My most recent edit:



Obviously I still have a long way to go, but I want to keep learning and just be able to make edits that I can be proud of, and who knows, we'll see what happens from there.

I initially got into filming because I broke my collar bone this year and absolutely could not stand to be doing nothing around my house. So a week after I broke my collar bone I decided I was good to go out and film my friends. I was filming with a GoPro and had no real idea what I was doing, and this was the edit that resulted of it.
