WTB Cheap fluid tripod head

I posted this in wtb, but I guess I'll throw it up here too..
I want to buy a cheap fluid tripod head.. Maybe like an older manfrotto 501 or 701

How does it hold up in the cold? how long have you had it for?

Holds up okay in the cold. I've had it for about a year. Its all metal so it seems more durable than the manfrotto 701. Honestly I would say it also performs as good or slightly better than the 701.

I have that ephoto 717 75 dollar fluid head too. Love it. I've only used a manfrotto 501 head once so dont have much to compare it to, but it works fine for me. Great for only 75 bucks. I've had it since last summer and it has some scratches, but seems durable. It's made of almost 100% metal.

Maybe get the manfrotto 701 if you have the extra money though

As far as I'm aware, any video head that isn't a fluid head (ie under $700) will suffer in the cold. Some fluid heads suffer even, but that's easily avoided if you buy the right ones.

At first mine was really stiff (ie to much friction even on loosest setting) but after a few ski trips it was fine.
