its not the ski patrol you have to watch out for but the guys in blue 'n white(hosts) they poll your passes for skiing back wards, they yell at you for ollieing and buttering, they fucking tell you not to jump of shit or over it, and they dont even get $'s $'s

nah ski patrol is pretty cool as long as you ask them stuff and talk on the lift with them but we hae one guy who obviously doesnt like his job and doesnt get paid much because man hes irritating. Hell just yell straight away. But theyre cool

Exactly, patrollers are great. Mutual respect is the key. W/B pro patrol is rad. Killer skiers, good guys, and great at hauling your ass off the hill when you're hurt. They're even nice to you while they sled you down!

I've never had a problem with them, though I must admit that my first time having patrol follow me out of bounds was weird. I stopped, they traversed by me, said hi, and went on their merry way. Not bad.

WOW. Actually this is a great thread that could end up getting some serious common sense, no bones feedback.

Now I remember being a hell raiser, and Brighten and the 'Orange and Blue' volunteer patrollers gave me a hard time when I was a kid. Then the patrollers giving me a hard time in my early adult years before I decided it was time to open my skiing mind. That's when my skiing education started to begin.

I served my country for a long time in the military, with breaks where I ski bummed it at rocky mtn resorts. I was humbled very quickly by some kick ass skiing old patrollers that saw something in me, that I didn't have a clue of existed. With this knowledge I gained from them. I feel we must all take a very deep breath, then step back and think just a bit.

Sure sometime patrollers can seem power happy. This can be an unfortunate side effect for those that are given some perameters of control over the public. However, 95% of patrollers are not this way. Their first goal is keeping everyone safe so you can enjoy another day of fresh turns.

'The best Patrollers are those that nobody bitches about, but those skiers that they stopped when acting stupid. Well those same skiers end up putting a beer in their hand at the end of the day thanking them for teaching them something. (RM. Director of Ajax ski patrol when I was there told me this)

How alot of resort mtn patrollers get bad cop reputations is by rookies that end up being caught up in the 'Power Junkie Addiction' of the job. Now believe me when I tell you that the older/experienced patroller trys to weed them out fast. But unfortunately those dickheads mark has been make with the skiing public. But so has that idiot mark been made by those that do not respect their fellow skiers, and then end up putting them at harms way. Then ski patrol ends up putting on the bandades.


Now we can sit here and debate this issue all night, well fuck all year long. We can trash post each other to death. But in the end this really comes down to one point.

Q: If you get a seriously fucked up while skiing. Who comes and helps you? Who stops the bleeding and then starts the breathing so you stay alive? Who gives you treatment so you can ski another day after.

Best to keep an open mind regarding ski patrol. They are the ones that bust their ass to keep you alive when you've skied something stupid. Just my .02

Sick, see it must be my resort then. all the ski patrol there are fairly young and not paid, so that must be why. but you guys are right the older patrol tend to mind tere own buisness untill you really need them. PEACE!!!!

It's not the same everywhere. My old local mountian had an all volunteer patrol, my dad included. Most of them were former professional patrollers at the bigger mountains in the area. I don't think I ever saw anyone get their pass pulled, and getting mad at being yelled at a little bit seems like you just can't handle breathing... I'm glad the patrol is around, I've never had to be carted off, but if I ever do I know they can help me out.

I used to be the head patroller at my homr hill. and believe me most patrollers are down with what we do. the thing is they dont have any power when it comes to decison.

Like most of them know you'll prolly get hurt 10 times more often trying big off axis spins then if you try a simple backflip. still insurance allowa 10 years old snowplower to bomb onto a 80footer and die but they do not allow us fresskiers to go out ona powder day and try a backflip into 9 feets of freshie.

So, if a patroller caught you up doingsomething not permitted, think about who decided those rules.... explain your point of view without being an ass.

telling them you build that 40 footer on the bunny hill cause the park sucks ass aint a good idea.

So if you exoplain them that the park was dangerous and you felt it was not safe so you decided to cruise around skiing fakie or do 180 over rollers in advanced trails then it might do something cause if by any cahnce the patroller is not dumb, well, he'll talk about that with other patrollers and you might end upwith a safer park with better jumps and rails instead of making them think they hould destroy the park so idiots like us would go skiing somewhere else and would not cause anymore trouble.

Sometimes, theres nothing to do with some patroller or some resortowner who do not understand us at all, if this happen, dont be stupid and go doing everything that's forbideen right in front of them.

about hose volunteers patrol being useless,

each patrolelr have taken courses about what do to when someone get hurt and shit. some of them are better at some parts of their `job` that you guys prolly dont know.

Yah some of the patrollers can be rather anal, but I used to patrol my self and the only thing I got piss of at was helmets in the terrain park (they were mandatory) but other then that I was all for it, hitting homemade kickers myself.

at okemo, they put the volunteer patrollers at the bottom of the trail right where you're going fast. when they yell at me to slow down, i spray them and tell them that i did slow down and that they just got in my way.
the patrollers are cool though. it's also good to be cool with the lift operators. my dad went three years straight back in the day without getting a lift ticket because he was always nice to them and got them food and stuff.

Most ski patrols are cool. My grandpa is one. I only don't like em if they boss you around for no reason

shit you guys got some anal hills. the patrollers(paid or not) are wicked at hemlock. i was getting busted by a manager for breaking into the park when it was closed, so the ski patrol said tehy would handle it and the manager left. i just talked and chilled with the patroller. they help us build jumps and would take us to the out of bounds chutes. when we do dumb shit they encourage us but jsut make sure no one else is going to get hurt. i dont know if it makes them moe or less qualified but volunteer patrols learn all the stabilization stuff and are specifically trained to be ski patrol. paid ski patrol just take their leel 3 industrial first aid.

Yah man I when I was ski patrol I did not give if you broke your arm jus as long as you did not screw with the lift or hurt anyone else I was cool id just patch u up and send u on your way.

I plan on becoming a ski patroler and I really hope that the kid that im pulling off the hills isnt gonna be an asshole to me later
